All the New Dinosaurs Shown in Jurassic World: Dominion

Jurassic World: Dominion has just been released, and it has already allowed us to see a lot of different dinosaurs in what is the epic conclusion to the six-part Jurassic series that began all the way back in the 90s. That said, this movie introduced new dinosaurs that are different from the ones that we have gotten used to in the past. The best part is that there are no hybrids. With that said, let’s look at the new dinosaurs shown in Jurassic World: Dominion.

Oviraptor

There are several Raptor types in the entire Jurassic World: Dominion movie because, let’s face it, the Raptor type is one of the most popular types of dinosaurs. In that regard, it was understandable that they introduced a new Raptor dinosaur in the movie. This is where the Oviraptor comes in, as it is only one of the few Raptor dinosaurs shown in Dominion.

Unlike the other Raptor dinosaurs, the Oviraptor tends to be a bit different because it has an elongated neck and has a feathery tail, and a large crest on its head. In fact, Jurassic World: Dominion stayed true to what a Raptor should look like by giving this dinosaur a feathery look in the movie. Nevertheless, the Oviraptor was one of the more minor dinosaurs in the film because it hardly did anything.

Dreadnoughtus

Apatosaurus in Water

Of course, big is always better in the Jurassic movies, as we have seen our fair share of large dinosaurs that were probably too big to even be on the screen. In the past, we were so used to seeing the Brachiosaurus as the biggest dinosaur that the people in the lab could cook up in the Jurassic movie saga, but there is now a bigger dog in the yard.

In Jurassic World: Dominion, we saw the introduction of Dreadnoughtus, which was just discovered 15 years ago. The fact that this is one of the newest dinosaur species ever discovered makes it an interesting addition to the Jurassic saga, as Alan Grant himself was in awe of this majestic beast. Today, the Dreadnoughtus is regarded as the biggest dinosaur ever because it has a length of 85 feet from tail to head. And its name makes this gentle giant quite fearsome, even though it was harmless during the movie.

Quetzalcoatlus

Probably the most annoying dinosaurs that the characters of the Jurassic movies have ever encountered are the ones that could fly because they can’t do anything about them. In fact, the pterosaurs caused more damage to Jurassic World than the Indominus Rex itself. And when you bring in a new flying dinosaur that’s bigger and badder than anything we’ve seen, things are only going to be interesting.

In the movie, Owen, Claire, and Kayla are in a Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar plane that isn’t a very big plane but isn’t that small. However, when the Quetzalcoatlus mounted the plane, it made it look like a toy because this dinosaur has a larger wingspan. In that sense, this is one big flying dinosaur that no one would ever want to mess with. And nothing is scarier than a flying dinosaur that is basically the size of an aircraft.

Moros Intrepidus

Of course, there are also smaller dinosaur species that were introduced in the movie because bigger isn’t always better. And while this dinosaur may be small, it still is a fearsome little creature because it is the distant relative of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

In the movie, Moros Intrepidus was portrayed to be a T-Rex-looking dinosaur that is a lot smaller than its larger cousin and has feathers on it. This dinosaur is often portrayed as a scavenger, just like the ever-popular Compsognathus. However, the ones we saw in the movie don’t hunt in packs, just like the Compy but is said to be a creature that likes eating scraps off the teeth of larger predators whenever they are sleeping.

Atrociraptor

Yes, we have another Raptor dinosaur on the list as the Jurassic movies just can’t get enough of Raptors. And this Raptor dinosaur is probably a lot more fearsome than the ones we’ve seen in the past (except for the hybrid Indoraptor).

The Raptor we are talking about is the Atrociraptor, which was weaponized by a contractor named Santos, who turned them into killing machines that will hunt and kill anything that is marked by the laser pointer that she uses. We saw these dinosaurs chasing CIA agents while nearly killing Owen and Claire as well. They are bigger, faster, and stronger than the regular Velociraptor, but they probably aren’t that smart because they were dumb enough to be weaponized.

Pyroraptor

Quick fact: The reason why the Raptors and the other dinosaurs in the Jurassic movies don’t have feathers is the fact that frog genes were used to fill in the gaps in their genetic makeup. However, some of the dinosaurs in Jurassic World: Dominion were designed to be pure and accurate in terms of their real-life depiction, as this dinosaur was one of the first ones taken from Isla Nublar.

The Pyroraptor is probably one of the most accurate dinosaurs in terms of what it actually looks like. That’s because this is a Velociraptor that has feathers, and that means that it was able to depict what a Raptor actually looks like. On top of that, the Pyroraptor, which was introduced when it attacked Owen and Kayla, was capable of swimming in icy water. That makes it just as dangerous as its featherless counterpart.

Therizinosaurus

There are always going to be weird dinosaurs introduced in every Jurassic movie, and that is where the Therizinosaurus comes in as one of the weirdest dinosaurs we have ever seen because this is actually a bird-like dinosaur with feathers and a beak-like snout. And while it looks like a carnivore, it is actually herbivorous.

What makes the Therizinosaurus very weird and unique is the fact that it has long claws on each of its hands. These claws act as their weapons for defense in case a predator were to attack it. The claws came in handy when it killed a deer that it competed with for food. And they became very useful in killing the final dinosaur that we have on this list.

Giganotosaurus

dominion-3

The Tyrannosaurus Rex has always been the favorite of the crowd in terms of the big and bad dinosaurs in the Jurassic saga. However, the T-Rex wasn’t always the biggest carnivore because the Spinosaurus in the third movie was bigger, and the Indominus Rex in Jurassic World was larger and stronger. And it sucks to be the T-Rex because a new king of the dinosaur world arrived in Jurassic World: Dominion.

This new king we are talking about is the Giganotosaurus, which is bigger and stronger than the T-Rex and was able to quickly supplant it as the new apex predator in the Biosyn ecosystem. It chased away the T-Rex in their first encounter. Meanwhile, in their final encounter, it knocked the T-Rex out to show its dominance. However, a team effort between the Therizinosaurus and the Tyrannosaurus Rex killed the Giganotosaurus when it got impaled by the Therizinosaurus’s claws after the T-Rex used its full weight to ram it.
