The emotional core of ‘Alpha’ rests on a twist involving the two lead characters that reframes everything that came before it. Vikrant, now the chief of RAW following the death of his predecessor Colonel Sunil Luthra, confronts Fateh and learns that his daughter is alive, then travels to Valladolid in Spain to meet his other daughter Durga, Sita’s estranged fraternal twin sister.

This reveal recontextualizes the entire conflict as a story about a divided family rather than a simple mission briefing. The climax also reveals that Sita and Durga are biological sisters, with Vikrant being their father. The sisters’ reunion under violent circumstances gives the final act a weight that a straightforward spy mission would not carry on its own.

The film ends with Sita and Durga returning to RAW headquarters, where Colonel Vikrant Kaul officially instates them as the founding members of a new tactical unit called Alpha, establishing a new partnership going forward in the franchise. Alpha’s Box Office Collection Since Release

‘Alpha’ opened in theaters on July 3, and its early numbers reflected a film that performed decently despite a rocky critical response. The film collected approximately Rs. 8.75 to 9 crore net on its first day domestically, a number that was not strong enough relative to the film’s costs but still came in comfortably ahead of pre release expectations.

International audiences responded with similar enthusiasm on opening day. The film also did well overseas, earning approximately USD 650,000, or roughly Rs. 6.25 crore, which outpaced other recent films that had performed better domestically.

The film’s opening also carried some historical context within Bollywood. Alpha set records by surpassing more than a dozen 2026 releases and became the sixth highest opening female centric film, passing ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ to take that spot. By its second day, the film had added roughly Rs. 4.06 crore to its total, according to industry tracking figures.

Momentum continued to build heading into the weekend. By its third morning in theaters, the film had collected Rs. 2.59 crore by 11 a.m. alone, a jump of 48 percent, with Sunday collections projected to land between Rs. 14 and 15 crore.

Critics and Audiences Weigh In on the Reception

Reviews for ‘Alpha’ have landed on a mixed to negative spectrum, with much of the praise centered on its two leads rather than its script. Titas Chowdhury of News18 gave the film 3.5 out of 5 stars, describing it as rare to see women command action on this scale in mainstream Bollywood cinema.

Other outlets were considerably more critical of the film’s choices. Vineeta Kumar of India Today gave the film 2.5 out of 5 stars, criticizing its emphasis on glamour over substance in its action sequences.

Audience reaction on platforms like Letterboxd has echoed some of that ambivalence. One viewer wrote that the film feels emotionally hollow and that its story and characters never give the audience a reason to care, though it briefly comes alive whenever Alia and Sharvari share the frame.

Not every response was negative, however, with some viewers acknowledging the improvement in craft even while critiquing the writing. Another commenter called it a big technical improvement for the franchise and the best entry in the YRF spy universe since ‘Tiger Zinda Hai,’ while adding that Alia and Sharvari were the primary reason for watching.

With the film now positioning Sita and Durga as the founding members of a new unit within the franchise, viewers who just watched the sisters’ reunion play out on screen have plenty of reason to weigh in on whether this new Alpha division deserves its own future installment.
