Amanda Seyfried Turns Up the Glam in Stunning Porter Shoot by Chantal Anderson
Amanda Seyfried has been captivating audiences for over twenty years, and at 40, she’s stepping into a new chapter of her life and career. In a recent interview with Porter Magazine, photographed by Chantal Anderson and styled by Charlotte Blazeby, Seyfried spoke about her challenging new roles, her approach to Hollywood, and the way she wants to live her forties.
Seyfried started the interview with a playful magic trick at a French restaurant on the Upper West Side. “My friends are giving me magic tricks for my birthday because that’s my new plan: to learn how to do magic for kids,” she said, demonstrating a ring disappearing and reappearing in seconds. This small display of fun set the tone for a conversation about how she is embracing herself and her career in a more fearless, playful way.

The conversation quickly turned to her work. Seyfried is currently promoting two films released almost back-to-back: The Housemaid and The Testament of Ann Lee. She described the past awards season as spellbinding, with her performances earning nods from the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes.
Seyfried explained that she is determined to pursue roles that challenge her emotionally and creatively. “I’ve learned over time to follow the work that asks something real of me; to choose what feels honest, even when it’s uncertain,” she said.

In The Housemaid, directed by Paul Feig, Seyfried plays Nina Winchester, the matriarch of a seemingly perfect family who hides dangerous secrets. She called the role “very indulgent” and said it allowed her to explore rage in ways she never had before. “I got to explore my RAGE in this movie in a way that I’ve NEVER gotten to do. I OWE it so much,” she said.
Seyfried described a scene in which her character destroys a kitchen, and how working with co-star Sydney Sweeney required careful negotiation and trust. “It’s empowering in a way. I act on things more,” she explained.
Meanwhile, in The Testament of Ann Lee, Seyfried plays the 18th-century Shaker leader, a role that required intense preparation, including dialect and movement coaching. She even moved her family to Budapest to film. “I’ve never FELT closer to some kind of SPIRITUALITY than right now because of what [Ann Lee] taught me,” she said. The role pushed her to new creative and spiritual heights, including performing Shaker hymns a cappella.
Seyfried also reflected on life outside of work. She and her husband, Thomas Sadoski, are raising their two children in rural Upstate New York, where she feels the family is insulated from Hollywood’s pressures. “I don’t FEEL like I have anything to PROVE to Hollywood anymore – to my peers or the INDUSTRY,” she said. She emphasizes the importance of living fully, balancing career demands, and nurturing her family’s well-being.
Between magic tricks, maternal duties, and transformative film roles, Amanda Seyfried is entering her forties with confidence and clarity. She wants to continue choosing projects that challenge her while staying true to herself. Seyfried’s interview with Porter Magazine paints a picture of an actress who has mastered the art of fearlessness, balancing Hollywood success with personal growth, spiritual exploration, and playful joy.
