Amazon Prime Video Is Negotiating With Sony To Create ‘God of War’ TV Series
Amazon Prime Video is hoping to expand its roster of TV shows based on video games. A TV series based on Bethesda’s Fallout is already in development, with Walton Goggins set to star. And now, Amazon started negotiations with Sony to make a TV series based on the popular PlayStation franchise God of War, Deadline has learned.
God of War is one of the best-known exclusives and symbols of the PlayStation consoles. The franchise started in 2005 with the original game released for PlayStation 2, and the sequel followed in 2007. God of War 3 was released in 2010, and the first era of the franchise concluded with God of War: Ascension in 2013.
The first era of the franchise was based on Greek mythology. The second era, based on Norse mythology, started in 2018 with the reboot, simply titled God of War, which was released exclusively on PlayStation 4 in 2018, and earlier this year on PC. A sequel, God of War Ragnarök, was announced in September of 2020, and it’s set to be released later this year.
According to Deadline’s report, Amazon is planning to make a series with Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (The Expanse), and Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time). It’s not known how the negotiations are going, but if the deal goes through, this would be one very anticipated series.
