Amazon MGM Studios has big plans for a popular fantasy book series called The Empyrean, created by author Rebecca Yarros. They’re turning it into a TV show, starting with the first book, Fourth Wing. This news, first reported by Deadline, has fans buzzing with anticipation.

Fourth Wing has been a massive hit since it came out on May 2. Millions of copies have been sold worldwide in over 40 languages. On TikTok, videos about the book have racked up more than a billion views. It also spent 25 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list, including 13 weeks as the number one book.

The story follows Violet Sorrengail, a 20-year-old who wanted a quiet life studying books and history. Instead, her mother forces her into Basgiath War College, where she must train to become a dragon rider—or face death. It’s a high-stakes challenge that drives the plot.

In an interview with Today, Rebecca Yarros explained what makes her series special. She said, “I’ve always been obsessed with dragons and fantasy.” She also pointed out that the romance in the story isn’t just between people—it involves their dragons too. She added, “There’s a twist on history which keeps readers hooked.”

The second book in the series, Iron Flame, hits shelves on November 7. Its predecessor’s popularity has 400 bookstores planning midnight launch events. This shows how much readers are invested in the story.

Amazon MGM Studios isn’t working alone. They’ve teamed up with Michael B. Jordan’s company, Outlier Society, for this adaptation. Outlier Society recently worked on Creed III, which became a record-breaking success for Amazon. Their track record suggests the TV series could be a winner too.

Yarros has written over 20 books, but The Empyrean marks her first step into fantasy. If the show does well, each book in the series might get its own season. That’s a thrilling prospect for fans.

Behind the books is Entangled Publishing, a women-owned company started in 2011. They’ve published many bestsellers and are a key player in getting The Empyrean to readers.

Fans are eager to see how this dragon-filled world translates to the screen. It’s a fresh take on fantasy, and the excitement is building fast.
