AMC Boss Just Teased The Anne Rice Books That Could Define Interview With The Vampire’s Next Chapter
‘Interview With The Vampire’ has spent the last few years quietly building one of the most devoted fanbases in modern television, transforming Anne Rice’s gothic vampire saga into a prestige drama that fans can’t stop dissecting online. The show has already reinvented itself once, rebranding for its third season to reflect a shift into Lestat’s perspective and signal a much bigger creative ambition for the franchise.
That ambition has always hinged on one lingering question, which is just how far AMC intends to take this story once the current chapter wraps. Fans have spent months speculating about which Anne Rice novels might come next, especially with ‘The Vampire Lestat’ already borrowing threads from later books in the Chronicles.
Now there is finally some clarity, thanks to a new update shared by ScreenRant that quotes AMC’s Chief Content Officer directly addressing the future of the franchise. The exec was asked what the future of Interview with the Vampire could look like beyond season 3 and offered insight into which Anne Rice novels could be adapted next, naming The Queen of the Damned and The Tale of the Body Thief as the natural next books in the cycle.
That executive is Dylan McDermott, who holds the titles of AMC’s Chief Content Officer and President of AMC Studios, and he made these comments while discussing how AMC is figuring out ways to continue the Louis, Lestat, Molloy and Armand story for at least two more seasons. The timing lines up with reports that the current season has been performing well above expectations on the network’s streaming service, which only strengthens the case for AMC greenlighting more chapters of the saga.
Adapting ‘The Queen of the Damned’ would bring the story into much larger, mythological territory, centering on Akasha, the ancient vampire matriarch whose fury threatens to wipe out the entire vampire race. The character already appears in The Vampire Lestat, played by Sheila Atim, which makes her a natural fit if the show moves forward with a fourth season. The Tale of the Body Thief, meanwhile, serves as Rice’s fourth book in the Chronicles saga and would shift focus more squarely onto Lestat’s own psyche and choices.
Showrunner Rolin Jones has previously suggested he envisions the series running for somewhere between five and seven seasons total, so this latest comment fits neatly into that long term roadmap. AMC has also confirmed that a script for ‘Memnoch The Devil’ has existed for a couple of years, though the network has kept it on the back burner while it weighs how many corners of Rice’s Immortal Universe it can realistically support at once.
None of this amounts to an official season 4 renewal just yet, but it does mark one of the clearest signals so far that AMC sees a real future for this version of the Vampire Chronicles. For a show built on unreliable narrators and shifting perspectives, it feels fitting that even its future is being revealed one carefully worded quote at a time.
