The fourth week of the FX anthology frames the conflict as an open war between good and evil, and it delivers several revelations whether the characters are ready for them or not. New episodes arrive on Thursdays on FX and stream the following day on Hulu.

This ‘American Horror Story’ recap and ending explained covers the family secrets surrounding Constance and Ben, the origin of the Devil’s wager, and the way the latest double episode sets up a showdown. Spoilers follow for everything that aired.

Episode Recap Centered on Constance and Mr. Nas

The first episode of the pair returns to Mr. Nas’ apartment, where Constance arrives with a list of demands for the Prince of Darkness. She asks for no nuclear weapons, a woman in the White House and meaningful work for her children, and he agrees to all of it before turning the conversation toward her own record.

Nas produces a long list of her misdeeds across ‘Murder House’ and her earlier life, including the theft of baby Michael Langdon. He tells her she was born bad and that she should not take it too hard. The scene also gives viewers a first real answer about where her son fits in this new timeline, since Mallory killed him during the events of ‘Apocalypse’.

To lift her mood, Nas transforms the penthouse and dresses Constance in a red gown that recalls her party years. While they dance she suggests herself as his queen, and he stops her cold by revealing that he is her father.

Ben’s Tattoo and a Buried Satanic Past

Ben and Ashley return at a tattoo parlor, where a friend examines the mysterious mark on his back. The investigation unlocks a childhood memory of a woman taking her own life during a cult ritual, with Mr. Nas standing nearby.

An AI companion tells Ben the number points to the Beast in the Book of Revelation, and he concludes he was raised among Satanists. The same assistant suggests that the full name Taylor Dorium Nas can be rearranged into a phrase naming Satan. When Ben presses Mr. Phibes about the old man’s treatment, he gets no help.

Ben then moves against his patient, though accounts of the method differ. One recap describes an attempt to smother Nas with a pillow. Another describes a drugged drink followed by a mark drawn over the old man’s heart. Either way, the younger version of Nas appears and offers the truth, while Ashley is seen with Constance, saying she believes Ben has figured them out.

The Ending Explained Through God and the Devil’s Wager

The tenth installment opens at the Vatican in 1939, where a nun delivers a mysterious package to the Pope. Back in New Orleans, Papa Legba and Marie Laveau lead a ritual that shields the witches from demonic listeners.

The package held a truth handed down through the papacy about a bet between God and the Devil. If the Devil could live as a human for a hundred consecutive years, he would win Earth, Heaven and Hell. The Pope assumed the Devil was Hitler and performed an exorcism, but the real target was already living in America.

Nas is now ninety six, and he tells Ben that he is his son as well. He leaves out one detail, which is that he has been cheating, because each mass killing of women speeds up his aging. The coven is the final sacrifice he needs, and they are also a target for revenge since one of them killed his Antichrist.

Mallory, the Next Supreme, and What Comes Next

Papa Legba’s explanation forces Mallory to confess that she traveled back in time during ‘Apocalypse’ to kill Michael Langdon, something she had kept hidden from the others. Her act saved the world only temporarily, since it gave Satan time to build a new plan. Cordelia realizes this is why she never could read Mallory’s thoughts, and Fiona explains that Mallory is destined to be the next Supreme.

The witches learn their way forward, which is to find the Devil’s living son before he can claim his father. Once Satan wins the bet he must return to Hell and leave that son to rule Earth. Nas is already pitching the role to Ben, who is curious as long as he can still do good. Nas insists absolute power will corrupt him.

The hour closes with the witches preparing for battle, only for Ben to walk in and say they must be looking for him. Three episodes remain, which leaves little room for Ben to settle his loyalties. Will Ben stand with Cordelia and the coven, or has Mr. Nas already won back his prodigal son before the final battle begins?
