Apple TV+ is expanding its For All Mankind universe with a new series, Star City, and has cast BAFTA-winning actress Anna Maxwell Martin in a key role. The upcoming show will take a fresh look at the space race, but this time from the perspective of the Soviet Union.

Star City is a spinoff of For All Mankind, an alternate-history drama that imagines what would have happened if the Soviet Union had beaten the United States to the moon. While the original series explored the American side of events, Star City shifts the focus behind the Iron Curtain, offering a glimpse into the lives of Soviet cosmonauts, scientists, and intelligence officers. The series will highlight the struggles, sacrifices, and risks they faced in pushing space exploration forward.

Anna Maxwell Martin, known for her standout performances in Motherland, Bleak House, and Line of Duty, will take on the role of Lyudmilla, the head of KGB surveillance in Star City—the real-life Soviet space training center. She will star alongside Rhys Ifans, who plays the Chief Designer, likely inspired by historical Soviet rocket engineers such as Sergei Korolev.

The show is created by For All Mankind veterans Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore. Nedivi and Wolpert will serve as showrunners, with Moore and Maril Davis of Tall Ship Productions also executive producing. Other producers include Steve Oster and Andrew Chambliss. Like its predecessor, Star City is produced for Apple TV+ by Sony Pictures Television.
