Anne Hathaway (43) Cradles Her Baby Bump in Show-Stopping Black Gown at the ‘Verity’ Premiere
Anne Hathaway has had one of the busiest years of her career, and the ‘Verity’ premiere is the final stop on a packed release schedule. The thriller is her 5th and final project of the year, following titles such as ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘The End of Oak Street.’ Along the way, ‘Mother Mary’ and ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ also landed close together, which reportedly helped push ‘Verity’ from its original May release to October 2.
All of this has happened while Hathaway is preparing to welcome her 3rd child. She has turned her maternity style into one of the red carpet stories of the season, wearing everything from a figure-hugging Cult Gaia dress to a vibrant Carolina Herrera look during the press tour. Entertainment Tonight even called her the queen of red carpet pregnancy fashion.
That reputation got another boost on September 29. Hathaway walked the carpet at the ‘Verity’ New York premiere at AMC Lincoln Square 13 in a custom black Atelier Prabal Gurung gown, and Deadline shared photos of the moment that drew a lot of attention. One image showed the actress smiling in the strapless design, while another captured her in profile with her hand resting on her baby bump.
The gown had a strapless sweetheart neckline and a fitted embellished bodice that followed her changing shape before flaring into a voluminous pleated tulle skirt. A long train swept behind her, giving the all-black look plenty of movement on the carpet. Hathaway pulled her hair back so the neckline stayed in focus, and Bvlgari jewels finished the outfit.
The dress also marked a change in direction for her pregnancy style. Throughout the pregnancy, Hathaway has mostly chosen flowing silhouettes, including a Prada look in New York and a blue chiffon Dior gown in London while promoting ‘The Odyssey.’ This time the silhouette was more sculpted, and Red Carpet Fashion Awards ranked it among her top 2 looks of the year.

The black palette also suited the film. Since ‘Verity’ is a thriller, black felt especially fitting, but Atelier Prabal Gurung kept the gown from feeling predictable. The designer has become a familiar name in Hathaway’s wardrobe, having also created a custom look for her at the ‘The End of Oak Street’ premiere in August.

Hathaway also talked about how this pregnancy feels different from her earlier ones. Speaking with Extra on the carpet, she said she has noticed a cultural shift toward more openness around pregnancy, describing it as “something we can connect over as a human experience.” Her comments made the visible styling feel more meaningful. Instead of hiding her bump, Hathaway has made it part of each look throughout her press tours.
Hathaway wasn’t the only one making an entrance. Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, and Ismael Cruz Córdova joined her on the carpet, along with director Michael Showalter and author Colleen Hoover. Johnson chose a custom ivory Calvin Klein Collection two-piece, which stood out sharply against Hathaway’s black gown.

The cast photo also went viral. Page Six shared a TikTok showing how Hathaway helped keep the group photo running smoothly at the New York premiere, and the clip drew thousands of likes.
The film is adapted from Hoover’s bestselling novel. Hathaway plays renowned author Verity Crawford, while Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who moves to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for her. After Lowen finds what seem to be Verity’s disturbing autobiographical notes, she begins uncovering dark confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy, played by Hartnett.

The project reunites Hathaway with Showalter after their collaboration on ‘The Idea of You,’ and Hathaway is also one of the producers. Box Office Theory projects an opening between $20 million and $29 million when the thriller arrives in theaters on October 2.
