The latest Dior presentation for the Fall season showcased denim styles that brushed the ground, yet Anya Taylor-Joy quickly shifted the narrative on the streets of Paris the following morning.

The star elevated a jacket pulled directly from the runway show, infusing the look with a distinct Y2K energy. It appears creative director Jonathan Anderson presented Taylor-Joy with a special brocade Dior coat, a far more stylish gift than a standard event goody bag.

She immediately took the shearling-lined, peplum-hemmed piece out for a spin, layering it over her casual spring denim. While she kept the general runway silhouette, she chose to experiment with her lower half.

Taylor-Joy opted to trade the sparkling, crystal-heavy jeans seen on the catwalk for a simpler pair of cuffed trousers. By folding the hem up a few times, she put her sharp, pointy black pumps on display, offering a clear signal to millennials that it is time to dig out those classic heels once again.

Taylor-Joy is championing a duo that defined the mid-aughts for so many: rolled-up denim paired with black heels. This ensemble was essentially inescapable between 2005 and 2010, frequently sported by stars like Lauren Conrad, Katie Holmes, and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Ross famously incorporated this set into her outfit for the Proenza Schouler Fall 2005 event, rolling her jeans so high they resembled capri pants. As 2008 rolled around, the combination became a staple for celebrities like Conrad and Holmes.

Conrad tended toward skinny jeans, while Holmes frequently matched the bulkiness of her denim with equally substantial footwear. By 2013, the trend had reached figures like Selena Gomez, who famously integrated rolled denim and black Christian Louboutins into her daily wardrobe, solidifying the aesthetic as a rite of passage for young stars of that generation.

This look is less of a groundbreaking trend and more of a trip down memory lane. With just a quick adjustment, the jeans can be unrolled to create a look that feels more timeless and quintessentially French.

While it is different from the high-vamp flats seen on figures like Kendall Jenner, this specific denim revival may gain serious momentum quite rapidly. Away from the intensity of the fashion circuit, Anya Taylor-Joy remains a major force in Hollywood with several high-profile projects on her slate.

She is preparing to reprise her role in the upcoming Dune: Part Three, once again joining forces with Timothée Chalamet. Additionally, she is set to return to the world of animation as Princess Peach in the sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

On the television front, she is currently developing and starring in the highly anticipated Apple TV+ series titled Lucky, an adaptation of the popular thriller novel by Marissa Stapley.
