The question of a ‘Last Seen’ second season is already circulating, even though the Apple TV thriller has not yet reached its ending. Apple has not published a renewal announcement, and its official press pages currently focus on the first season. That leaves the show’s future an open question for now.

The series follows former police detective Ian Ridley, played by Patrick Brammall, who works as a dispatcher and begins to suspect he has found his daughter, who went missing years earlier. With the season finale scheduled for October 7, viewers will soon learn whether the story closes cleanly or leaves room for more.

Apple TV Renewal Status for the Thriller

As of September 10, Apple had not announced a second season, a returning cast or a production window. The show’s official news page carries no renewal release, and the series does not appear on Apple’s current list of renewal announcements.

Apple’s announcement describes the show as a six episode thriller adapted by Kris Mrksa from a novel, and nothing in it promises a second season. Any claim that more episodes are already planned would go beyond the available information.

The platform traditionally waits for early audience and critic response before deciding the future of a recent series. One outlet suggests that if Apple does renew the show, new episodes could arrive in 2027 or 2028. That timeline remains an estimate and not an announcement.

Patrick Brammall and the Returning Cast

Brammall leads a cast that also includes Maxine Peake, Brendan Cowell, Daniel Henshall, Jessica Wren, Zahra Newman and newcomer Chloe Jean Lourdes. The role follows the success of ‘Colin from Accounts’ and ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ for the actor.

Christian Schwochow, whose earlier credits include ‘The Crown’, directs the series and serves as an executive producer. Production comes from 60Forty Films and Werner Film Productions.

The series was set and filmed entirely in Victoria. Whether that ensemble would reunite for a second season depends entirely on a renewal that Apple has not yet offered.

The Dispatcher Novel and Story Limits

The series is based on Ryan David Jahn’s crime novel The Dispatcher, and it carried that title before Apple changed it to ‘Last Seen’. The book won the CWA John Creasey Dagger Award.

Reporting differs on what that source material means for a second season. TV Insider notes that a returning series could go beyond the book, as other novel adaptations have done. Serie News counters that the original material ends with this first chapter, so more episodes would need an entirely new story.

Apple has also not explained whether the six episodes adapt the full novel or leave material available for another season. A second season would need either unfinished consequences from Maggie’s case or a clearly established new investigation.

Finale Timing and Critic Reception

The first two episodes premiered globally on September 9, followed by one new episode each Wednesday through October 7. That weekly pace gives the series a few more chances to shape the conversation before its closing chapter.

Critics have been divided on how well the story works. The A.V. Club found the show stronger as a family saga than as a crime thriller, praising the execution of its twists while noting that their predictability often limits the tension. The same review points out that the series reaches a definite conclusion, which may matter for any renewal discussion.

Other reviewers were warmer. Flicks argued that familiar crime formulas feel fresh because of the cast. Pajiba described it as a missing child story that is not quite what it seems at first.

Now that Ian Ridley’s search is nearly over, should ‘Last Seen’ stay a complete story or follow Ian into a new case with this same cast.
