Aquaman Star Talks About Amber Heard After ‘Heard vs Depp’ Trial

Heard vs Depp, something that was filling the headlines for the last couple of weeks reached its verdict yesterday. Amber Heard was found guilty of defamation of her ex-husband Johnny Depp, and the jury said she must pay $15 million in damages combined, minus the $2 million that Heard will get because Depp’s lawyer defamed her as well during the trial.

The reactions aren’t stopping to surface from all over the world. Johnny Depp enjoyed the public support while Heard became one of the most hatred celebrities, although Heard had some support as well. Even though Depp formally won this trial, Heard announced that she will appeal against the verdict. Of course, the question that fans are asking is how will their careers continue after this. Depp already lost his job on Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean and WB’s Fantastic Beasts franchises. Mads Mikkelsen replaced Depp in the latest Fantastic Beasts installment, and Disney is currently developing two Pirates movies without Depp. The petition to rehire Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean counts more than 800K signatures, but even if Disney would be willing to rehire him, Depp said during the trial he doesn’t want to work with Disney again.

Amber Heard has kept her role of Mera in the upcoming Aquaman sequel — Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The production of the movie already wrapped, but the role of Mera has been reportedly reduced in the sequel, as Heard claimed on the witness stand. Still, the petition to remove her from the sequel counts more than 3 million signatures. It’s not known what the director James Wan and the lead star Jason Momoa think about all this (Momoa liked both Depp and Heard’s statements on social media following the verdict), but Dolph Lundgren, who played Mera’s father King Nereus in the original Aquaman movie, had good words to say about his co-star.

“She was great. I worked with her on the first Aquaman, now the second one. We shot last fall in London. She’s terrific. I had a great experience with her. She’s very kind, nice to the crew, nice to everybody, just down to earth. She had her newborn baby with her on set with the nanny which was kind of cute.” — Dolph Lundgren for The Independent (via The Direct)

The consequences of this trial will follow Depp and Heard and their careers for a while now. Depp is currently set to play King Louis XV in the Jeanne du Barry movie, which is currently in pre-production. Heard is still expected to appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is set to be released on March 17, 2023.
