Are Doctor Strange and Wanda Maximoff Hiding Inside Doctor Doom’s Witch Costumes in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel Studios has turned costume reveals into a full blown marketing strategy this summer, and San Diego Comic-Con 2026 became the latest stage for that rollout. Fans camped out at the Marvel booth for days, watching rotating displays tease characters and plot threads for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ without a single official confirmation from the studio.

Robert Downey Jr. is stepping into the role of Victor von Doom for the film, marking one of the boldest casting swaps in franchise history, with the Russo brothers back in the director’s chair for the December 18 release. That anticipation has made every prop, action figure, and costume displayed at the convention fair game for obsessive fan analysis.

That is exactly the energy behind a post from the fan account Culture Cave, which shared images of costumes belonging to Doctor Doom’s mysterious witches now on display. The account pointed to two figures in particular, floating the idea that they could belong to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, based on the robes shown alongside Doom’s own armor in the exhibit photos.

The costumes themselves have been a slow burn reveal all convention long. Marvel Studios showed off the costumes belonging to three Latverian Witches in green, yellow, and purple, sparking fan speculation about their significance, before Doctor Doom’s own costume went on display ahead of the studio’s Hall H panel. The green version was displayed against a stained glass backdrop and styled with clear visual ties to Downey’s Doctor Doom, while a later red variation was also confirmed, adding even more characters to guess at.

The Wanda theory has legs because of the timeline. The costume features green robes, a silver face mask, and a belt buckle with a diamond motif, details fans have connected to both Doctor Doom and Wanda Maximoff’s powers. Olsen has been absent from the MCU since Wanda’s apparent death in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ back in 2022, and a growing number of theorists believe this Latverian Witch could mark her return, not as the Sokovian Avenger fans knew but as a variant recruited directly by Doom.

Do you think the Latverian witch is someone familiar?

Not everyone is convinced it is Wanda under the hood, though. Other outlets have pointed out that these kinds of witches are typically tied to Cynthia von Doom, Doctor Doom’s own mother in the comics, while fans elsewhere have pushed for Agatha Harkness, Sylvie, Maria Rambeau, or even Peggy Carter as the true identity behind one of the robes.

Doctor Doom’s own display has fueled just as much speculation as the witches surrounding him. His costume included a piece of fabric tied around his left arm, leading to theories that it belongs to a wife or child he loses as part of a multiversal incursion, tying into reports that his MCU version will get a more personal, relatable origin story.
