‘Army of Darkness’ Actor Marcus Gilbert Dies at 67, Cause of Death Revealed
British actor Marcus Gilbert has died at the age of 67. He was best known for playing Arthur in Sam Raimi’s cult horror film Army of Darkness. News of his death was shared by the Marcus Gilbert Fansite, which said he passed away on January 11 after a three-year fight with throat cancer.
Gilbert was born in Bristol, England, in July 1958. He trained at Mountview Theatre School and began his acting career on stage before moving into film and television. Over the years, he built a long and steady career, working across many genres and formats.
Horror fans remember him most for Army of Darkness, released in 1992, where he played the proud and dramatic Lord Arthur. Decades later, he returned to the role by lending his voice to the character in Evil Dead: The Game, helping introduce Arthur to a new generation of fans.
Outside of the Evil Dead world, Gilbert appeared in many well-known projects. He played a villain in Rambo III and had a memorable role in Doctor Who during the Battlefield storyline. He also starred in the TV series Riders and appeared in shows like Murder, She Wrote, Jonathan Creek, Robin of Sherwood, and Doctors. His film work included titles such as Biggles, A Ghost in Monte Carlo, Legacy, and Freebird.
Gilbert also worked extensively in theater and commercials. He appeared in more than 50 ads and later ran his own production company. In his personal life, he was married to doctor Homaa Khan-Gilbert, who died in 2020. He is survived by his two children.
His death has led to many tributes from fans who remember him for his strong screen presence and wide range of roles. For many, his performance in Army of Darkness remains unforgettable.
