‘Army of Darkness’ Comics Give Ash the Ultimate Aliens-Inspired Power Boost
Army of Darkness comics are based on the movie of the same name and were first published by Dark Horse Comics, then later by Dynamite Entertainment through Devil’s Due Publishing.
The stories follow Ash Williams from the Evil Dead series and feature many crossovers with characters like Marvel Zombies, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Dracula, Xena, and more.
In the 2014 Army of Darkness comic series by Cullen Bunn and Larry Watts, Ash gets a powerful upgrade by building his own mech suit in space, inspired by Aliens. This new upgrade takes his iconic chainsaw hand to the next level, making him even more unstoppable.
Ash’s space adventure starts in the Army of Darkness: Ash Gets Hitched miniseries, where he ends up in a space-time vortex before his honeymoon. He meets an astrologer, Artemus Vrill, who has the evil Necronomicon.
They end up on a space shuttle, and when they launch into space, the astronauts turn into Deadites. Ash fights the Deadites while the Necronomicon’s evil infects his robotic hand. To fight the upgraded Robo-Ash, Ash builds a battle suit out of junk, inspired by Ripley’s suit from Aliens.
In Army of Darkness #4, Ash’s new battle suit is put to use. He easily defeats some Deadites, including throwing an astronaut around with his chainsaw arm while singing classic rock songs.
When he faces off with Robo Ash, the fight seems one-sided at first, with Ash trapping Bad Ash by the throat. However, Robo Ash attacks with his evil hand, which sprouts spider legs and a mouth, attaching itself to Ash’s face, making the battle more intense.
Fans have been hoping for a crossover with the Alien franchise for years, this might be a way to do it!
