Avatar 2: Kate Winslet and Sigourney Weaver’s Roles In The Sequel Revealed
After 13 years, James Cameron’s 2009’s ground-breaking blockbuster Avatar is finally getting a sequel — Avatar: The Way of Water. After several delays, the long-anticipated sequel is now set to be released on December 16, 2022. And now, Empire Magazine now revealed the first look at Sigourney Weaver’s role in the sequel.
In the original movie, Sigourney Weaver played the role of Dr. Grace Augustine, a xenobotanist who was in charge of the Avatar Program. She founded a school for the Omaticaya to teach them English, but the school was destroyed when the war between the natives and humans arose. Grace died before the original movie ended, but Cameron announced that the actress will return to a different role in the sequel.
Empire Magazine recently revealed that Sigourney Weaver will play Kiri, who is an adopted Na’vi daughter of Sam Worthington’s Jake and Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri. Empire also revealed the exclusive first look at the character. Additionally, Empire also revealed the first look at Ronal, a new character who will be played by Titanic star Kate Winslet.

The original Avatar movie was released in 2009 and it was a visual revolution in filmmaking. The movie grossed $2.7 billion and it’s currently the highest-grossing movie of all time. James Cameron is back as a director, writer, producer, and editor. Sam Worthington returns to the role of Jake Sully, and Zoe Saldana plays the role of Neytiri again. Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald are also reprising their respective roles from the original film, and Sigourney Weaver returns in a different role, as Kiri. Additional cast members include Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, Vin Diesel, and CJ Jones.
After 13 years of waiting, Avatar: The Way of Water will be released on December 16, 2022. After that, there are three more installments that will be released in 2024, 2026, and 2028, respectively.
