‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ Trailer Finally Reveals the Next Avatar’s Dangerous New World

‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ is finally starting to feel real. After months of questions about the new series, fans now have a full trailer and a clear idea of how Paramount+ plans to release the next chapter of the Avatar story.

The new animated series comes from Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the creators behind ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender.’ The story takes place 225 years after the events of ‘The Legend of Korra,’ putting the franchise in a future that looks very different from anything fans have seen before. At the center of it all is Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers that she is the next Avatar.

Being the Avatar usually means becoming a symbol of hope. Pavi will not have that luxury. The world she lives in has been badly damaged by a massive cataclysm, and the remaining communities do not see the Avatar as a hero. Instead, Pavi is feared as a possible destroyer. That gives the series a very different starting point and puts its new Avatar in a difficult position right away.

The trailer also introduces Pavi’s twin sister, Nisha, who has been separated from her for years. The two are brought together as they try to understand where they came from and what happened to their world. Their relationship looks like it will be just as important as Pavi’s journey as the Avatar, especially as the sisters search for answers while the Seven Havens face an uncertain future.

Paramount+ has also cleared up one of the biggest questions surrounding the show: how fans will actually watch it. The 26-episode season will not be released all at once. The first three episodes will arrive on October 9, followed by three more episodes each week. The final four episodes will then arrive on October 30. That means fans will have to wait for the story to unfold instead of being able to watch the entire season in one weekend.

The voice cast includes Saheli Khan as Pavi and Aishu Devan as Nisha, along with Akshay Khanna, Major Curda, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan and Dee Bradley Baker. Nickelodeon Animation and Avatar Studios are producing the series, while La Chouette Compagnie is handling the animation. Jeremy Zuckerman, who worked on the earlier Avatar shows, is also back to provide the music.

The world of ‘Seven Havens’ is also being built with real cultures in mind. According to Polygon, executive producer Sehaj Sethi explained that the series draws from AAPI and Indigenous cultures and histories. Sethi specifically pointed to Ellora as an example, with the name inspired by the real Ellora Caves in India.

That detail could make the new setting feel familiar while still being completely different from the worlds of Aang and Korra. The series is not simply moving the old Avatar formula into the future. It is using the time jump to create a world with new problems, new cultures and a new idea of what the Avatar means.

‘Seven Havens’ is also arriving during a busy period for the franchise. The animated series is part of a larger Avatar expansion that includes the theatrical animated movie ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ and Netflix’s live-action version of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender.’ But ‘Seven Havens’ has one major advantage: it is the first mainline animated series to introduce a completely new Avatar after Korra.

Pavi’s story could give the franchise its biggest shake-up yet. She is young, powerful and connected to a sister who has her own place in this strange new world. More importantly, she has to become the Avatar at a time when people may want her gone. If the trailer is any indication, ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ is ready to take the franchise somewhere fans have never been before.
