‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Drops a New International Teaser and Fans Are Already Focused on Doom

Marvel is keeping the Avengers: Doomsday hype alive with another new teaser, and once again, the biggest attention is going to Victor von Doom. The latest international promo does not reveal much about the story, but it gives fans another reason to talk about Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU in a very different role.

The new teaser was released as part of Marvel’s international marketing campaign and once again confirms that Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18. Japan has been getting plenty of attention during the campaign, with Marvel releasing special promotional material for the market and making sure audiences there are included in the worldwide rollout. The studio appears to be building excitement around the movie without showing too much of what happens in the actual story.

That has become one of the most interesting parts of the Doomsday campaign. Instead of dropping one huge trailer packed with every major character and story detail, Marvel has been giving fans short pieces of information. One teaser focuses on one group of heroes, another highlights a returning character, and another gives viewers a quick look at Doom. It is a slow approach, but it has kept fans guessing about just how big the movie is going to be.

Some of the earlier promotional videos have already brought back major names from across Marvel’s history. Chris Evans has been connected to the campaign as Steve Rogers, while Chris Hemsworth is returning as Thor. Marvel has also shown X-Men characters including Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, and James Marsden’s Cyclops. These appearances have made it clear that Doomsday is not simply another Avengers sequel. It is being built as a huge crossover between different parts of the Marvel universe.

The biggest question, though, may still be Doom. Robert Downey Jr. spent years playing Tony Stark before leaving the MCU, so seeing him return as one of Marvel’s most famous villains has naturally become a major talking point. A previous countdown teaser gave fans another brief look at Doom, and the reaction showed just how much interest there is in the character. Many fans seem more curious about Doom himself than anything else Marvel has shown so far.

The movie is also expected to bring together several different superhero groups. Based on reports about the story, the Avengers will share the screen with the Fantastic Four and the X-Men as different universes begin to collide. The Fantastic Four are connected to Earth-828, while the X-Men come from Earth-10005, the reality used in the earlier Fox movies. That setup could allow Marvel to bring together characters who have never appeared in the same story before.

The X-Men are clearly being treated as an important part of the movie as well. Marvel has given the team its own promotional artwork alongside material for the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Wakandans. That makes it look like the mutants will have a much bigger role than a quick appearance or surprise cameo.

Behind the scenes, directors Joe and Anthony Russo are still taking an open approach to the movie. Joe Russo told AP News that the script is treated as “a living organism,” explaining that their process involves rehearsals and improvisation instead of simply following a finished script word for word. That suggests some parts of the movie can continue changing as the filmmakers work toward the final version.

There have also been reports of reshoots, adding even more mystery around what Marvel may have changed during production. With the film reportedly running close to two hours and 45 minutes, Doomsday is shaping up to be one of the biggest MCU movies yet.
