Marvel Studios has spent months slowly pulling back the curtain on ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. The Russo brothers’ epic sees the Avengers, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers and the X-Men team up to face Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, and it’s set to arrive in theaters on December 18.

The promotional campaign has been arriving in waves ever since. Back in May, artwork showed the logos of the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men colliding, and more recent pieces have paired unlikely heroes together, from Sue Storm and Mystique to U.S. Agent and the Human Torch.

Now the latest drop leans fully into the franchise’s roots. New comic book-style promo art for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has surfaced online, credited to hexfacility, presenting the film’s heroes as if they had leapt off the cover of a classic Marvel issue.

The 2 new pieces borrow the look of vintage comic book covers. Each features a corner box marked with the Marvel Studios logo, the year 2026, and an emblem combining the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men symbols, a clever nod to the classic cover designs fans know well.

The first piece is a burst of fiery orange and purple. A hooded Doctor Doom looms over the scene as Thor charges forward with his hammer crackling with energy, joined by heroes including Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Black Panther, and Yelena Belova.

The second takes on a red-tinted, more classic comic illustration style. Doom’s shadow fills the background while Thor, Captain America, The Thing, Black Panther and Yelena rush toward the reader in a dynamic action pose.

The art underlines the sheer scale of the film’s ensemble. Beyond the returning Avengers, the cast includes the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, characters from Wakanda and Talokan, and legacy X-Men actors such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer.

Earlier promotional material has already highlighted many of these unlikely team-ups. In August, art brought Stewart’s Professor X, McKellen’s Magneto, Marsden’s Cyclops and Channing Tatum’s Gambit together with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.

Marvel has also pushed the campaign overseas. A set of posters featuring the team logos for the X-Men, Black Panther and Fantastic Four was displayed at the Grand Cinema Sunshine in Tokyo through October 1, alongside a Doctor Doom standee.

The pace of new material has clearly accelerated. Just a day before this latest piece surfaced, promo art spotlighting Sue Storm, Black Panther, Mystique and Yelena Belova appeared online, alongside other images featuring the Fantastic Four, X-Men and Avengers.

The comic book-inspired designs feel like a love letter to longtime readers. With so many iconic teams sharing the screen, it makes sense for Marvel to celebrate the medium that made them famous. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is part of the MCU’s Phase Six and was filmed between April and September 2025. Its follow-up, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, is scheduled for December 17, 2027.

That film borrows its name from 2 famous comic events: the 1984-85 crossover written by Jim Shooter and the 2015-16 storyline by Jonathan Hickman. Both involve Marvel characters converging on the planet Battleworld. With roughly 2 months to go until ‘Doomsday’ hits theaters, fans can expect even more artwork, and perhaps a few more surprises, before Doom finally makes his move.
