‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Is Already Outselling ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Internationally, and It’s Closing in on ‘Brand New Day’
Marvel Studios has been building toward ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ for months, and ticket sales have been strong from the very beginning. Premium tickets first went on sale on July 20, roughly 5 months before release, with Disney reporting $16.5 million in domestic presales in the first 24 hours from about 1,000 premium screens.
By September, domestic presales had crossed $50 million with more than 3 months still to go. More than 70% of those advance tickets were for Infinity Vision, Disney’s new premium certification covering formats like Dolby Cinema, Cinemark XD and Regal RPX.
Now, early numbers from Mexico suggest international excitement is just as intense. According to box office tracker Carlangonz, whose analysis was shared from the Box Office Theory forums to Reddit’s r/boxoffice, ‘Doomsday’ has already surpassed the entire presale cycle of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ in the country.
The tracker noted that this milestone came after just a week of regular sales and nearly 2 weeks of Infinity Vision sales. ‘Doomsday’ is currently running close to 7% ahead of the full presale run for Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s blockbuster.

Even more impressive, the film is running at nearly 89% of the total opening-day sales for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. That’s a remarkable figure considering how far away release day still is.
The comparisons get even more striking when looking at other recent superhero releases. According to the same tracker, ‘Doomsday’ has made nearly 3.5 times the full presale run of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ in Mexico.
It has also reached about 3.2 times the presale total of ‘Superman’. Across the tracker’s sample of theaters, occupancy already sits at 55% of the total seats available for opening day.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ set an extremely high bar this summer. The film broke ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ all-time domestic opening-day record with $168 million on July 31, then went on to a record $360 million opening weekend.
Domestically, ‘Doomsday’ had already been pacing well ahead of the web-slinger. Reports in August had its first 2 days of presales running 65% above ‘Brand New Day’s’ early pace, and first-day ScreenX presales alone were 325% higher.
The film also set a presale record for Dolby Cinemas 3 months before release. If the Mexico numbers keep climbing, ‘Doomsday’ could soon overtake ‘Brand New Day’s’ opening-day total there as well.
Disney created Infinity Vision partly because IMAX screens worldwide are dedicated to ‘Dune: Part Three’ in December. The studio is steering Marvel fans toward other premium formats instead, and the approach appears to be paying off.
Exhibitors have welcomed the boost. Some theater operators have said demand for their premium screens has far exceeded expectations, with presales heavily skewed toward those formats.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in theaters on December 18, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. The film brings together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and more against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
With strong momentum both domestically and abroad, expectations continue to rise. Industry watchers are already wondering whether the film can challenge the opening-weekend records set by ‘Endgame’ and ‘Brand New Day’.
Do you think ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will break box office records when it hits theaters?
