‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Is Reportedly Still Filming, and Marvel Is Sneaking in a Wave of New Cameos

Marvel’s road to its next massive crossover event has been anything but a straight line, with production details shifting and evolving practically every month since cameras first rolled last year. For a film built around bringing together nearly every corner of the franchise’s expanding universe, that kind of ongoing tinkering has almost become part of the story itself.

With the film’s December release date creeping closer, fans might have assumed the hardest work was already behind the production. A new report suggests otherwise, revealing that Marvel still isn’t quite finished putting the pieces together.

‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ is reportedly going through additional photography, with insider Daniel Richtman revealing on X that the crew is “still doing reshoots for Doomsday” while filming for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ is expected to begin at the end of September. If accurate, that timeline means production on both massive crossover films could end up overlapping in the coming weeks, an unusually tight turnaround for two films of this scale.

According to SuperHeroHype’s reporting on Richtman’s claims, Marvel has not officially confirmed the additional filming schedule, though the timing lines up with a broader pattern of reshoots this franchise entry has undergone throughout its production. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, ‘Doomsday’ brings together an enormous roster spanning the Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men as they face off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

This wouldn’t be the film’s first round of additional photography. Back in March, Richtman reported that the Russos were heading back to London specifically to add “narrative clarity” and “emotional beats” to the project, with the film’s major set pieces already locked before that round of reshoots even began. That earlier report indicated the goal was strengthening character-driven material rather than overhauling any of the film’s large-scale action sequences.

That same pattern appears to be continuing now, with earlier reporting from AOL noting that a previous wave of reshoots was specifically aimed at giving the Multiverse Saga’s characters more meaningful interactions with one another, something fans have felt was missing compared to the tightly interconnected feel of the original Infinity Saga. Marvel has also reportedly been filming several major cast members separately for their cameo appearances, a technique previously used to help keep surprise castings under wraps until release.

Beyond Downey Jr.’s central role as Doctor Doom, the film’s massive confirmed cast includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, alongside X-Men veterans Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and James Marsden. With principal photography having originally wrapped back in September 2025, the sheer number of reshoot rounds this film has gone through underscores just how ambitious Marvel’s plans for this crossover truly are.

Given how tightly connected ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ are meant to be within Marvel’s broader Phase Six storytelling, it makes sense that the studio would want every character beat locked in before moving on to the next chapter. Whether these latest reshoots are adding entirely new cameos or simply polishing existing performances remains unclear, but the timing suggests Marvel is leaving nothing to chance ahead of December’s release.

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ now less than four months from theaters, fans will likely be parsing every new casting rumor and reshoot report for hints about who else might be sneaking into this record-breaking ensemble.
