‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Just Teased Its Own Version Of A Twisted Wanda Maximoff, And Fans Aren’t Ready
San Diego Comic Con always brings a flood of surprises for Marvel fans, but this year’s convention floor delivered something nobody quite expected. Between towering photo ops and nostalgia heavy nods to the X Men, Marvel Studios quietly tucked away a costume display that would end up dominating timelines within hours. It’s the kind of reveal that starts as a con floor curiosity and ends as the internet’s newest obsession.
The character in question doesn’t have a name fans recognize yet, at least not officially. A costume displayed at San Diego Comic Con 2026 ignited debate about a new witch in ‘Avengers Doomsday,’ with Marvel Studios exhibiting the outfit alongside other props from the film and giving attendees a first glimpse at a character never before seen on screen. Marvel has labeled her the Latverian Witch.
That’s where the account MCU Film News picked up the story, sharing a close up breakdown of the mask and costume for its followers and crediting the original photography to MCU_Direct. The images show exactly what convention attendees saw in person, and the details are hard to ignore once you notice them.
The display places the figure against a stained glass window, wrapped head to toe in attire that unmistakably echoes Doctor Doom’s own visual language, with green robes flowing from shoulder to floor and fastened by metallic clasps. Photos taken by The Direct’s Lauren Rouse show the hood draping over a silver face mask, along with a green belt and a set of silver metal gloves completing the look.
Unlike Doom’s own heavily detailed facial covering, this mask strips back the ornamentation and instead sculpts more defined lips at the base, while the belt buckle features a silver diamond motif whose meaning remains unexplained. It’s a small detail, but one that fueled nearly every theory racing across fan pages within minutes of the photos going up.
Naturally, fans immediately connected the reveal to Elizabeth Olsen. The actor has stayed absent from the MCU since Wanda Maximoff’s apparent death in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ back in 2022. A growing chorus of theorists now argues this Latverian Witch could represent her return, not as the Sokovian born Avenger fans know, but as a variant recruited directly by Doom and reimagined with Latverian roots instead.
Adding fuel to that fire, Marvel recently revealed a Doctor Doom action figure featuring plastic attachments resembling a red tinted magic, a detail some fans have tied to a possible partnership between Doom and this reimagined version of Wanda. Other rumors offer a completely different angle. Some insiders claim Doom will be reimagined as a family man in the film, positioning the Latverian Witch as his wife rather than an ally, with her early death potentially serving as the emotional catalyst behind his multiversal rampage.
Whatever the truth turns out to be, Marvel clearly knows how to turn a costume rack into a full blown mystery. ‘Avengers Doomsday’ is shaping up as the MCU’s fifth Avengers movie and the third theatrical release of Phase 6, with nearly three dozen major stars already confirmed to appear alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom.
Do you think this Latverian Witch is secretly a twisted version of Scarlet Witch, or is Marvel setting up someone entirely new to stand beside Doom.
