‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Merch Finally Gives Nightcrawler His Full MCU Makeover

Marvel Studios has spent months teasing ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ with trailers, cast reveals, and a steady drip of promotional art, but one returning X-Man has remained conspicuously hidden from the spotlight. Nightcrawler, played by Alan Cumming, has been waiting for his moment in the marketing sun even as other mutants have already had their new looks shown off. That absence has only made fans more curious about how Kurt Wagner will actually look when the film finally arrives.

Cumming first played the teleporting mutant back in 2003’s ‘X2’, and his return after more than two decades has been one of the more surprising pieces of the film’s massive ensemble. The character was notably left out of the movie’s marketing materials for a long stretch despite Marvel confirming his casting earlier this year. That made new merchandise the actor’s best chance to reintroduce Nightcrawler to modern audiences.

Now that gap has been filled. New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ merchandise has given fans their fullest look yet at Nightcrawler, showing off a costume that leans hard into his classic comic book design. The look keeps Nightcrawler’s signature blue skin, yellow eyes, tail, and pointed ears while introducing a far more comic accurate wardrobe than anything he wore in his earlier film appearances.

The redesign goes well beyond just a new color palette. Nightcrawler’s updated outfit includes twin cutlasses, a long coat featuring the iconic X logo, a waistcoat, and pinstriped trousers, giving him a sharper, more tactical presence than before. This latest merchandise reveal builds on an earlier physical display at the D23 Expo, where attendees got an up close look at both the costume and the swords alongside Mystique’s new outfit.

Nightcrawler is far from the only X-Man getting a glow up for the crossover. Other confirmed X-Men returning for the film include Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, and Channing Tatum as Gambit, with each reportedly receiving costume refreshes meant to bring them closer to their source material. Robert Downey Jr. leads the film as Doctor Doom, anchoring a project positioned as one of the biggest Marvel crossovers ever attempted.

Cumming has been open about how different this experience has felt compared to his first outing as the character. He has described his return to the role as a genuinely positive experience, a sharp contrast to the difficult conditions he has said he endured while filming ‘X2’ under director Bryan Singer. That emotional turnaround has become part of the story surrounding his comeback, even as fans focus most of their attention on how the character will actually look and fight on screen.

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to bring together heroes from the MCU, the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, and the Fox era X-Men, every new costume reveal adds fuel to the anticipation. Nightcrawler swinging his twin swords in a comic accurate coat feels like a small but meaningful signal of how seriously Marvel is treating its X-Men legacy this time around. Now that Kurt Wagner finally has his moment, do you think this redesign lives up to the comics fans have been waiting to see on screen?
