‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Reshoots Have Reportedly Wrapped, and Scarlet Witch May Finally Be Back
Marvel’s next massive crossover event has already assembled one of the largest ensembles in franchise history, but the studio apparently wasn’t done tinkering even after cameras officially stopped rolling. Between mounting fan speculation and a steady drip of set photos, additional filming has kept the rumor mill running for months as Marvel quietly reshapes the film ahead of its December release.
That extended process began not long after principal photography wrapped last September, when The Hollywood Reporter first indicated Marvel Studios was planning a “healthy” amount of reshoots. Since then, everything from stunt double sightings to social media teases has fueled ongoing speculation about which characters might be sneaking their way into the finished film.
Reshoots for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ have reportedly wrapped, according to Daniel Richtman, with the additional filming reportedly including scenes involving Scarlet Witch, Sue Storm, and other characters. That confirmation lines up with ‘Black Panther’ star Winston Duke’s own comments to CNA, where he stated plainly, “We just wrapped and are doing some additional photography for Avengers: Doomsday.”
Much of the buzz around this extended shoot has centered on Elizabeth Olsen’s potential return as Scarlet Witch, a character notably absent from the film’s original cast reveal. Olsen’s stunt double, Jennifer White, fueled that speculation directly by reposting behind-the-scenes photos from previous MCU shoots and reportedly filming in what appeared to be Wanda’s Multiverse of Madness-style costume, though it remains unclear whether Olsen herself was present for any of that additional footage.
Beyond Scarlet Witch, reports have suggested Jeremy Renner could be returning as Hawkeye, based on a cryptic social media image the actor shared during the reshoot period. Mark Ruffalo has also been rumored to have stepped away from filming Season 2 of ‘Task’ to shoot scenes for the film, adding another potential Original Avenger back into the mix.
The reshoots reportedly focused heavily on new character-focused scenes, aimed at giving the massive ensemble more genuine moments of interaction rather than isolated appearances. That approach directly addresses a common criticism of Marvel’s Multiverse Saga, which has struggled to replicate the kind of frequent character crossovers that defined the franchise’s earlier Infinity Saga era.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ already boasts a staggering cast list beyond these reported additions, including Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, and Robert Downey Jr. returning as Doctor Doom. Several original ‘X-Men’ actors are also confirmed to return, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Rebecca Romijn, alongside David Harbour’s Red Guardian and Winston Duke’s M’Baku.
Writers Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron have reportedly continued refining the script throughout this extended production window, giving Marvel room to adjust scenes well after the main shoot officially ended. With the Russo Brothers reportedly adding “a lot” of cameos during this stage, fans have plenty of reason to keep speculating about who else might be sneaking into the finished film.
With reshoots now reportedly complete and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ still on track for its December 18 release, Marvel appears to be putting the finishing touches on what’s shaping up to be one of its most ambitious crossover events yet.
