‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Reunites Steve Rogers and Thor, and Mjolnir Is Right Back in Cap’s Hand
Few moments in Marvel history landed quite like Steve Rogers finally lifting Mjolnir. ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ first hinted that Chris Evans’ hero might be worthy of Thor’s hammer, and that tease paid off in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ when he wielded it against Thanos. It became one of the defining images of the Infinity Saga.
That moment felt like a final bow at the time. Steve went back in time to live a life with Peggy, passing the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson before retiring. But in December, Marvel confirmed Evans would return as Steve Rogers in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and he’s set to appear in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ as well.
Now, a new look at Steve and Thor has surfaced, shared by The Hollywood Handle, and Mjolnir is once again front and center. One image shows Steve in a dark jacket gripping the hammer against a city skyline, while another catches Chris Hemsworth’s Thor gazing out a window, deep in thought.
The images come from Marvel’s special preview that aired during Game 1 of the World Series. That spot included a moment with Thor and Steve in what appears to be New Avengers Tower, talking about the former Captain America still being able to wield Mjolnir.

The exchange seems to be played partly for laughs. Thor appears bothered that Steve can still lift his hammer all these years after ‘Endgame’, prompting some to wonder whether the film will dig into the reason or simply treat it as classic Marvel banter.
The hammer has already played a key role in Steve’s return. In the first full trailer, Thor encounters Steve just when he needs him most, and Mjolnir flies into Steve’s hand just like it did in ‘Endgame’.
The moment does double duty. It mirrors Steve’s original triumph while confirming that this really is Steve Rogers rather than a clone, a duplicate, or even Mystique in disguise. It also shows that stepping away from the action and giving up the shield didn’t make him any less worthy.

Promotional art has leaned into the image too. One piece places Steve at the center of the hero lineup gripping Mjolnir as Sentinels loom behind the team, while Anthony Mackie’s Captain America carries the shield. It’s a neat way of showing how the 2 Caps split the gear.
The reunion could carry plenty of story weight. Steve’s return reportedly gives him a central role, including a mission with Thor to find Loki. Leaked footage has also suggested a moment where Thor summons Stormbreaker while Steve calls Mjolnir as Doom unleashes his Sentinels.
As always, leaks should be treated with caution until the movie arrives. Some unverified rumors have even claimed that someone other than Steve could be the one to wield Mjolnir against Doom.

Steve’s comeback hasn’t been universally embraced. Some fans felt bringing him back was disrespectful to Sam Wilson’s tenure as Captain America, while others criticized Marvel for leaning on Infinity Saga names again. Still, the marketing seems careful to keep the shield, and the leadership, firmly with Sam.

Whatever the reaction, the pairing of Evans and Hemsworth remains one of the franchise’s most reliable draws. Fans will see how this reunion plays out when ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters on December 18.
