‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Is About To Turn Its International Rollout Into a Box Office Event
Marvel’s decision to send one of its most beloved films back into theaters was always going to generate buzz among die-hard fans. What’s turned into a genuine surprise is just how aggressively overseas audiences have responded, treating a six-year-old re-release with the same urgency typically reserved for brand-new blockbusters.
That momentum has been building steadily since presales first opened in late August, and it’s now reaching a critical turning point. With the film’s September 25 theatrical return just days away, ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore‘ is preparing to kick off its full international rollout, and early numbers suggest the rerelease could become a genuine box office event rather than a simple nostalgia play.
Strong presales are already building across multiple major markets, with India shaping up as one of the standout territories heading into the weekend, while China, Latin America, Oceania, and Europe are also showing solid early momentum. Industry trackers following the rollout are projecting the rerelease could pull in a $50 million-plus opening weekend globally once all markets are accounted for.
China’s presale performance has been particularly striking given how the rerelease started. The film spent its first two weeks restricted to fewer than 100 screenings in the country, a surprisingly modest allotment before expanding dramatically to 11,000 screenings, and eventually 20,000, in the days leading up to release.

That expansion translated into serious momentum. Presales for the September 24-27 window climbed to a $965,000 cumulative total, a figure that already surpasses the two-day presale totals of recent major releases including ‘The Batman’ at $313,000 and ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ at $435,000. At the current pace, some trackers believe the film could threaten a $50 million three-day opening in China alone.

India’s response has been equally dramatic. The re-release has already crossed 100,000 advance tickets nationally, translating to a roughly ₹5 crore opening start, with around 35,000 tickets sold in top national chains PVR Inox and Cinepolis alone for opening day. Chennai has emerged as a particularly strong market, with the first batch of available showtimes selling out quickly after going live.
That kind of nationwide urgency a full week ahead of release is unusual for a catalogue title, underscoring just how durable Marvel’s event-cinema appeal remains among Indian audiences. Given that only a portion of the film’s final screening inventory has gone live so far, current numbers may only represent a preview of what’s still to come.
The rerelease isn’t purely a nostalgia lap. ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ arrives packaged with new footage tied directly to ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which is set to hit theaters December 18. That connective tissue has effectively transformed what could have been a routine catalogue revival into something closer to required viewing ahead of the franchise’s next major chapter.
The rerelease has also reportedly already posted the biggest first-day presales this century for any theatrical rerelease, surpassing the benchmark previously set by the 2012 3D return of ‘Titanic.’ The all-time domestic rerelease record still belongs to the 1997 rerelease of ‘Star Wars: A New Hope,’ but Marvel’s current trajectory suggests it could get close.
