‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Is Coming Back to Theaters, and Marvel Has a Big Doomsday Surprise – Check out the New Artwork
Marvel is taking fans back to one of the biggest moments in MCU history. Avengers: Endgame is returning to theaters this fall with a new presentation called Avengers Endgame: Encore, giving fans another chance to watch the Infinity Saga finale on the big screen. But this time, there is a much bigger reason to go back. Marvel says the theatrical event will also include an exclusive first look at Avengers: Doomsday, making the re-release part nostalgia trip and part preview of what comes next.
The Encore screenings begin September 25, giving fans a chance to see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes together again before the next Avengers movie arrives. Marvel has also released new artwork for the re-release, bringing the huge Endgame cast together in one image. It is a reminder of just how massive the movie was when it first arrived in 2019 and how many major Marvel characters shared the screen during its final battle.
The biggest attraction for many fans will probably be the Doomsday footage. According to Marvel’s announcement, the special preview will be shown during Encore screenings, giving audiences an early look at the movie that will continue the Avengers story. That makes the event more than a simple re-release of an old favorite, especially for fans who want to know what Marvel has planned for its next major crossover.
The special footage will also be shown in several theater formats. Standard screenings will be available, while IMAX audiences and viewers at Disney’s new Infinity Vision premium screens will get the additional Doomsday material. Infinity Vision is a new premium format designed around larger pictures, brighter images, and stronger sound, and Disney has been expanding the number of theaters that carry the format.
There is also more to the Encore version than the Doomsday preview. According to current listings and reports, the new presentation runs for around 185 minutes, which is about four minutes longer than the original theatrical version. The added material reportedly includes a new introduction, extra footage, and a special end tag created for this release. For a movie that already runs close to three hours, Marvel is finding another way to make this version feel different from the one fans watched in 2019.
The response to the re-release has also been surprisingly strong. According to reports, the Encore trailer collected more than 77 million views during its first 24 hours. That is a huge number for a movie that has already been available for years, and the reported view count is said to be higher than the early response for trailers promoting several other major theatrical re-releases, including Top Gun, Avatar, and Titanic.
It is easy to understand why Endgame still has that kind of pull. The movie closed the Infinity Saga after more than a decade of storytelling and brought together an enormous group of characters for one final fight. It also became a box office giant, earning close to $2.8 billion worldwide. The movie’s portal scene, in particular, became one of the most talked-about moments in the MCU and created one of those rare theater experiences where entire audiences reacted together.
The return of Endgame also has an important connection to the people making Marvel’s next Avengers movies. Joe and Anthony Russo directed Endgame and are coming back for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Bringing Endgame back before Doomsday gives Marvel a chance to remind audiences what the Russos achieved with the original Avengers team while building excitement for their next two massive projects.
Marvel is also clearly using the re-release to test how much fans still want large-scale theatrical experiences. Disney has been expanding Infinity Vision, with reports putting the format at around 75 certified theaters in the United States and roughly 300 internationally. That means the company is not simply putting an old movie back on screens. It is also giving audiences a chance to experience Endgame in a premium format while preparing them for the next era of Marvel blockbusters.
