‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Is Coming to Theaters With New Footage and a Special End Tag Before ‘Doomsday’ Arrives
Few films in cinema history have left the kind of mark that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ did when it first hit theaters back in 2019. The film earned nearly 2.8 billion dollars worldwide and stood as one of the most emotionally charged blockbusters in the history of the medium. Now, more than seven years later, Disney and Marvel Studios are bringing the Infinity Saga finale back to the big screen, and this time it is coming with a brand new identity.
First reported in late 2025 and officially confirmed at CinemaCon 2026, the re-release was already generating considerable buzz for its promise of bonus content designed to connect directly to the next chapter of the MCU saga. The announcement signaled that this would not simply be a nostalgia play but something with genuine narrative stakes heading into one of the most anticipated Marvel events in years.
According to Deadline, Disney will officially retitle the re-release as ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore,’ a move that coincides with the film’s new approach, which includes a custom introduction for Disney’s Infinity Vision format alongside new footage and a special end tag exclusive to Infinity Vision and IMAX screenings. The announcement was made during CineEurope in Barcelona, where Disney also formally unveiled Infinity Vision to exhibition partners. The certification requires a screen at least 45 feet wide, immersive sound comparable to Dolby Atmos or 7.1, and brightness levels reaching 14 footlamberts in 2D.
What makes the Encore release genuinely exciting beyond its premium presentation is the directorial intention behind the new footage. Speaking at the Sands Film Festival, director Joe Russo made clear how significant he sees this re-release, telling the crowd that the new version of ‘Endgame’ is a “critical companion story” that sets up the fifth Avengers film, and confirming that footage set within the ‘Doomsday’ story has been added directly to ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ He went on to describe the experience as “an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way,” according to Den of Geek.
The Infinity Vision rollout carries additional urgency given that IMAX has locked up ‘Dune: Part Three,’ which opens the exact same day as ‘Doomsday’ in December, leaving Marvel’s biggest tentpole of the year without the IMAX brand behind it. More than 7,500 theaters have already applied for Infinity Vision certification ahead of the September release, suggesting the format is gaining real traction across the exhibition community.
Fan speculation has largely centered on the consequences of the Avengers’ time heist and Steve Rogers’ decision to remain in the past with Peggy Carter as the likely focal point of the new material, given how directly that act of time manipulation could ripple into the multiverse chaos expected in ‘Doomsday.’ With the Russo brothers back in the director’s chair for both films, the connective tissue between the two entries appears very much by design.
‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ is scheduled for worldwide release on September 25, with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ following on December 18.
