Avengers: Endgame Encore Is Dominating Overseas With a Massive Box Office Surge
Re-releases usually arrive with modest expectations, since audiences have already seen the movie and the buzz tends to be purely nostalgic. ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ is quickly proving to be the exception, with the Marvel reissue turning into a genuine global event rather than a quiet victory lap.
The Encore version returned to theaters this week with roughly 4 minutes of new footage designed to bridge the gap into ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘, which arrives on December 18. Domestically, it already started strong with $3.8 million from Thursday previews, according to The Hollywood Reporter, as the studio projected a weekend in the $25 million range.
Now, the international numbers are rolling in, and they’re impressive. According to box office analyst Jatinder Singh, ‘Endgame Encore’ earned more than $18 million overseas on Friday alone, bringing its international cumulative total to around $28 million so far.
Singh described the performance as solid across the board, with especially strong turnout in the UK, Latin America, India, China, and several European markets. He now expects the overseas opening to reach $60 million, with the global weekend haul potentially climbing past $85 million.

China led the pack with roughly $7 million, followed by Mexico with approximately $1.8 million and the UK with $1.7 million. Japan contributed $1.5 million, Italy added $1.2 million, while India and France each delivered about $1 million.
The Chinese performance arrived on a particularly favorable date. The re-release landed during the Mid-Autumn Festival, opening with $6.99 million including midnight screenings and sweeping major cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.

Local trackers are now projecting a $15 million to $16 million opening weekend in the market. Heading into release, the Encore collected $3.1 million in Chinese presales, beating ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, ‘The Marvels’, and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ while nearly matching the $3.2 million of ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’.
That said, expectations in China have cooled somewhat. Earlier forecasts had pointed to a debut of $20 million or more, but analysts noted that sales were heavily concentrated on previews and Friday, suggesting a front-loaded run.
All of this matters because ‘Endgame’ is once again in a race for the all-time record. The film originally finished at $2.797 billion, briefly topping ‘Avatar’ before James Cameron’s epic reclaimed the crown through re-releases and stretched its total to $2.923 billion.
Singh also noted that updated figures from the original theatrical run should push ‘Endgame’ close to $2.9 billion worldwide by Sunday. In China alone, the film’s lifetime total has now climbed to about $639 million.
The domestic side could add even more fuel. Ahead of the weekend, Gold Derby projected $25 million to $28 million for the Encore, noting that anything above $25.6 million would topple the 2012 3D re-release of ‘Titanic’ as the biggest re-release opening ever.

The strong turnout also doubles as a massive marketing win for Marvel. The Encore is essentially serving as a months-early theatrical appetizer for ‘Doomsday’, with fans flocking back to see the new footage that ties the two films together.
Early results in India were also encouraging, with the re-release opening to around Rs 7.25 crore on its first day. If holdovers remain healthy after this weekend, ‘Endgame’ may soon be within striking distance of rewriting box office history once again.
