‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Star Iman Vellani Has One Unexpected MCU Crossover in Mind for Ms. Marvel

Few actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe approach their own franchise quite like Iman Vellani does. Long before she became Kamala Khan, Vellani was already a die-hard comics fan, and that perspective has continued shaping how she talks about the character and the wider universe even now that she’s fully embedded within it.

That fan-first mindset has made her one of the MCU’s most candid voices when it comes to where the franchise should go next. She’s previously argued that Marvel should slow down on constantly stacking bigger crossovers and instead focus on making audiences genuinely care about individual characters, a philosophy she reiterated when asked what she’d change if she were ever put in charge of the MCU, joking she’d “maybe do less team-ups.”

Despite that instinct toward restraint, Vellani has one specific crossover she can’t stop thinking about. In a recent interview discussing her career and comic-book work, she revealed exactly which corner of the MCU she’d love to see Kamala interact with next: the Guardians of the Galaxy.

‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Star Iman Vellani Has a Surprisingly Simple Idea for Fixing the MCU

“I love the idea of Kamala in space… I love the Guardians [and] I think Kamala would be a really fun dynamic with them,” Vellani said in the interview. The comment stands out given how grounded Kamala’s story has largely remained so far, rooted firmly in Jersey City and her own tight-knit community rather than the cosmic side of the MCU.

That grounded approach has actually been intentional on Vellani’s part. Speaking to Cosmopolitan around the release of ‘The Marvels,’ she previously explained wanting Kamala to have room to exist within her own community rather than constantly being pulled into ever-larger team-up events, a perspective that makes her enthusiasm for a Guardians pairing feel like a genuinely considered idea rather than a throwaway wish.

The appeal of pairing Kamala with the Guardians isn’t hard to understand from a storytelling perspective either. Kamala has always been defined by her boundless enthusiasm for the wider superhero world around her, first introduced as an obsessive Avengers fan before ever gaining powers of her own, making a crossover into the cosmic unknown feel like a natural extension of that character trait rather than a forced expansion.

Vellani has continued developing her own creative voice around the character well beyond acting, too. She’s previously co-written ‘Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant’ for Marvel Comics and has spoken on other podcasts, including ‘Revenge Of’ and ‘Off Panel,’ about both her hopes for Kamala’s future in the MCU and her separate creator-owned comic project, ‘Chachu.’ That hands-on comics background gives her Guardians comment extra weight, coming from someone who understands the character from both sides of the page.

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to bring together characters from across the MCU, including the Fantastic Four and X-Men, when it arrives December 18, Vellani has been vocal about wanting that kind of ensemble spectacle to feel earned rather than just bigger for its own sake. Whether a Guardians crossover for Kamala ever actually makes it to screen remains entirely speculative, but Vellani’s specific, thoughtful pitch suggests she’s already given real consideration to how that dynamic might play out.

For a character built on unshakable superhero fandom, sending Kamala into space alongside Star-Lord and company feels like exactly the kind of story she’d have once dreamed up in a fan video of her own.

Who would you most want to see Kamala Khan team up with?
