Barry Keoghan is speaking openly about how online hate has affected his personal life and career outlook. The 33-year-old actor discussed the issue during an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up on March 20. The interview was later shared in clips by Elite Daily.

He said that being online has become difficult because of the level of negative comments he sees about himself. Even though he tries to stay away from social media, he explained that curiosity still pulls him back at times, especially when checking how public appearances are received.

Barry described the online reaction as harsh and focused heavily on his appearance. He said this has changed how he behaves in public and how often he chooses to go out. In his words, it has led him to step back from events and social situations more than before.

He explained, “I removed myself from online, but I’m still a curious human being that wants to go on and, if I attend an event or if I go somewhere, you want to see how it was received. And it’s not nice. There’s a lot of hate online. It’s a lot of abuse of how I look.”

He also spoke about how the constant criticism has affected his confidence. He said it has made him avoid social settings and, at times, even want to stay indoors completely. He was direct about how serious it has become for him.

He added, “And I say this being absolute pure and honest to you. It’s becoming a problem. So yeah, I don’t have to hide away because I am hiding away. I don’t have to go to places because I actually don’t go to places because of these things. But when that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem because then you don’t even want to be on screen anymore.”

Barry also mentioned his concern about how this kind of online content could affect his son, Brando, in the future. He said it bothers him to think about his child seeing negative comments about his father when he is older.

He said, “It is disappointing for the fans, but it’s also disappointing that my little boy has to read all of this stuff when he gets older.”

The interview highlights how online criticism is affecting not just Barry Keoghan’s public image but also his personal life and mental state. It also shows the pressure public figures face when their appearance becomes a focus of constant discussion online.

This situation shows how damaging online comments can become when they turn personal. Public figures are still people, and constant criticism can affect real life choices and mental health. What do you think about how social media affects actors like Barry Keoghan? Let us know in the comments.
