As far as representation goes, ‘Doctor Who’ managed to tap bestselling author Juno Dawson who is joining the writing team for the new season. Known for her books ‘This Book is Gay’ and ‘Her Majesty’s Royal Coven,’ Dawson is one of several new writers joining Russell T Davies’ updated series, alongside Pete McTighe, Inua Ellams, and Sharma Angel-Walfall.

Dawson also created the ‘Doctor Who: Redacted’ podcast, featuring Jodie Whittaker, which follows a group uncovering a supernatural mystery where everyone who’s met the Doctor is being erased.

Juno Dawson shared her excitement about joining ‘Doctor Who,’ saying she’s been a fan since watching the show with her grandma in the 1990s. She reflected on how she went from writing fan fiction for herself to now working on her favorite TV show, calling it a dream come true. She’s eager for both fans and newcomers to enjoy the new season.

I started watching Doctor Who with my grandma when I was ten-years-old in the 1990s. From writing fan-fiction for an audience of one, to scripting the best TV show of all time is truly a dream come true. I can’t wait for fans and newcomers to see the new season.
