Ben Affleck’s (54) Brutally Honest Take on His Love Life Has Fans Laughing
Ben Affleck has never been the most comfortable celebrity on the press circuit, and his latest round of interviews is proving just how unfiltered he can be. The actor is currently promoting ‘Animals’, the Netflix film he directed, co-wrote and stars in alongside Kerry Washington.
Affleck has been surprisingly open about his discomfort with the publicity machine. In an October 7 interview with Variety, he described movie promotion as something that increasingly feels like a minefield, and he later suggested that doing interviews can actually make it harder for audiences to like a film.
That candor reached new heights during his appearance on the October 13 episode of ‘SubwayTakes with Kareem Rahma’. Late in the episode, the conversation shifted to a book Affleck believes young people should read, ‘Sex for Dummies’ by Dr. Ruth Westheimer and Pierre A. Lehu.
When Rahma suggested that younger generations are having less sex than before, Affleck quipped that he’s pretty old and had his share back in his day. Rahma then asked whether that meant he wasn’t intimate anymore at all.
Affleck answered without missing a beat, explaining that he’s simply tired now. He added that sex takes a lot of work, especially if you want to do a good job, and the remark quickly became the talk of the internet.
Viewers wasted no time weighing in. One commenter simply asked, in disbelief, whether he was really tired, while another pushed back by arguing that people should have more sex because it is good for the body. Others drew connections to his personal life. One commenter linked Affleck’s remarks to his former marriage to Jennifer Lopez, from whom he split 2 years ago.
Still, it’s worth remembering the spirit of the moment. Affleck was clearly joking around, and many fans appreciated how comfortable he seemed poking fun at himself in an era when celebrity interviews often feel rehearsed.
Ben Affleck Reveals He’s Tired Of Having S(e)x At His Age. “It’s a Lot of Work, Especially If You Want to Do a Good Job” When the interviewer suggested young people aren’t having much s*x these days, Ben Affleck had a surprisingly relatable response. “I’m pretty old. I was having sex in my day.” The interviewer asked if that meant he wasn’t having s(e)x anymore. “No, because now I’m tired.” Then Affleck delivered the line that made the conversation even funnier: “And s*x is a lot of work. Especially if you want to do a good job.”

The comment fits neatly into the public image Affleck has embraced in recent years. During the same SubwayTakes conversation, he leaned into his viral “beleaguered man” persona, which grew out of paparazzi photos of him looking exhausted, eating fast food, and smoking.
He also admitted that he’s far more comfortable playing someone else on screen than entertaining people by simply being himself. Affleck pointed to his shyness and a fear that his comments could be taken out of context, joking that every interview now comes with the risk of cancellation.

Affleck’s personal life has been under the spotlight for years. He shares 3 children with Jennifer Garner, to whom he was married from 2005 to 2015, and his more recent marriage to Lopez ended after they had reunited and wed in a Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022.
Reports have suggested that finding love again isn’t currently at the top of his list. However, Affleck himself didn’t discuss any dating plans during his SubwayTakes appearance, keeping the focus on his tongue-in-cheek take rather than any romantic updates.

For the moment, Affleck’s energy appears firmly devoted to his career. ‘Animals’ has him pulling triple duty as writer, director, and star, and he has been making the rounds on everything from ‘Good Morning America’ to street-level interview shows to support it. If his SubwayTakes moment proves anything, it’s that Affleck remains one of Hollywood’s most refreshingly self-aware stars, even when he’s poking fun at his own exhaustion.
