Benedict Cumberbatch Explains Doctor Strange 2 Reshoots And Why They’re Important

Reshoots in Hollywood – sometimes they’re no big deal, sometimes they could be a pretty bad sign. In this case, we hope it’s the former. Last month, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that the upcoming movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will undergo some reshoots. Reshooting is set to be done by the end of this year, and the movie is set to hit theaters in May 2022.

Although reshooting is nothing unusual in Hollywood, sometimes they can be a sign that the production isn’t going well, which can potentially lead to a disappointing final product. Although the reshoots were described as significant, Cumberbatch is assuring us there’s no need to panic.

“We’re in the middle of reshoots and we’re working incredibly hard to make a schedule work to realize the full potential of the film – bits that we want to do better but also bits that were just impossible to do on the day because of logistics, COVID, etc. We were so delayed in production because of that. Luckily, not during production too much. Although everything is just a little slower.”

All the movies MCU’s Phase 4 endured delays due to the pandemic. The most recent delays pushed Doctor Strange 2 from March to May 2022. It can be that the reason was pandemic, but this time it could mean that it’s because of the reshoots too. The cast and crew are set to work for six days a week until the end of the year to get it done.

One thing that was recently revealed is that Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had to change some major plot points because Doctor Strange 2 was initially set to arrive before No Way Home. If it wasn’t for the covid, we’d watch some totally different movies now.

Cumberbatch admits that production was going slower than expected, but it’s nothing that cannot be handled. He said that director Sam Raimi is overlooking the whole process, and promised us that the reshoots will make the movie even better, and we believe him.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
