Sports anime is one of the most popular anime genres and it brought us great stories from basketball, baseball, volleyball, and more. However, cheerleader anime are not that prominent – cheerleaders would only have cameos in sports anime. Thankfully, the trend is slowly changing, and cheerleader anime is slowly but surely getting more popular as the years go by. Because of this trend, we decided to make our own list of 25 cheerleaders anime characters you won’t so easily forget.

This list will probably have a lot of characters from the same anime but for a good reason – there aren’t that many legit cheerleader anime characters out there or anime series whatsoever. Let’s start with one male character, Sōichirō Suzuki. He is one of the characters of Cheer Boys!! series by Ryō Asai. He is a first-year business student at university and a member of the male cheerleading club called Breakers. He dedicated life to baseball until he graduated from high school and decided to enroll in the male cheerleading club.

He is very athletic, and flexible and that is why he is the one who performs one of the hardest jumps in the squad.

Kana Ushiku is a prominent character in the Anima Yell! series. She is a high school student and Hizume, the main character of the series, is a former teammate during middle school. She attends the same school as the rest of the girls, and she is seen as being a brash, condescending, and borderline arrogant person, who is very hostile to most of the Cheer Association members.

Regardless of those facts, she is a skilled cheerleader who often criticizes Hizume for holding herself back because she is surrounded by beginners. Eventually, she joins the cheerleading club for Hizume’s sake.

Queen Barby is a character from anime called Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, where she served as a supporting character and even in one arc as the main antagonist. She is a female student, formerly a school queen of Daten City High. In the anime, she created a kingdom tailored to her needs. However, after being stung by her pet bee of a nerd, who suffered oppression, and died she became a gargantuan ghost who sought nothing but power.

She was defeated by the main protagonists of the show, Panty, Stocking, and Brief, and was purified to her original state.

Gen is one of the characters of Cheer Boys!! series, and another entry on this list. Like his previous colleague on this list, Gen is also a first-year student in university and a member of the cheerleading club, Breakers. He is a flirty guy of the bunch but cares immensely about his friends. He does not like comparisons to Sōichirō Suzuki, because he does not see himself as an equal to him.

Uki is quite a stern character or more specifically, a tsukkomi character who is usually incredulously reacting to anything weird being said in the squad. She is a very talented cheerleader who is very athletic and a great addition to the Cheerleading Association.

14. Hizume Arima

Hizume is the so-called leader of the Cheerleading Association because she is the most skillful individual in the group. She is one of the founders of the cheerleading group and because of that one of the leaders. In comparison to her teammates, Hizume actually has experience in cheerleading – she was part of the cheerleading group outside the school before enrolling in high school.

She was the best out of all of her former teammates but started to resent her when they realized they could not keep up with her. That propelled her to leave the squad and forget about cheerleading. Only after Kohane was convinced to found a cheerleading squad on their own, did she decide to do what she loves the most.

4. Chiharu Mihara

At first, she was reluctant to join Cheerleading Association because of the fear of performing in front of everyone but was motivated after seeing the squad perform.

She performed as well and go inducted into the squad fairly fast.

2. Sakura Kinomoto

Sakura is an optimistic girl we saw in the Cardcaptor Sakura anime. She is also really clever and all-around sweet. She is a scaredy cat, however, she has her friend Naoko who always helps her get over that fear.

She is the main protagonist of the show, and definitely serves her place on this list.

She is part of the Far Eastern Magic Napping Society of Summer, which serves as a base of the operations at the school. She is always friendly and polite in the public, however, in the private she is quite easily irritated and bitter at times, which makes her do some really odd things.

Like every character, Shinka has her flaws and is generally kind-hearted and cares deeply about her friends, and that is why she is in the first place – we value characters who are layered and Shinka is definitely a good example.
