25 Best Cheerleader Anime Characters You Won’t Forget
Sports anime is one of the most popular anime genres and it brought us great stories from basketball, baseball, volleyball, and more. However, cheerleader anime are not that prominent – cheerleaders would only have cameos in sports anime. Thankfully, the trend is slowly changing, and cheerleader anime is slowly but surely getting more popular as the years go by. Because of this trend, we decided to make our own list of 25 cheerleaders anime characters you won’t so easily forget.
This list will probably have a lot of characters from the same anime but for a good reason – there aren’t that many legit cheerleader anime characters out there or anime series whatsoever. 25. Sōichirō Suzuki
Anime: Cheer Boys!!
Let’s start with one male character, Sōichirō Suzuki. He is one of the characters of Cheer Boys!! series by Ryō Asai. He is a first-year business student at university and a member of the male cheerleading club called Breakers. He dedicated life to baseball until he graduated from high school and decided to enroll in the male cheerleading club.
He is very athletic, and flexible and that is why he is the one who performs one of the hardest jumps in the squad.

24. Kana Ushiku
Anime: Anima Yell!
Kana Ushiku is a prominent character in the Anima Yell! series. She is a high school student and Hizume, the main character of the series, is a former teammate during middle school. She attends the same school as the rest of the girls, and she is seen as being a brash, condescending, and borderline arrogant person, who is very hostile to most of the Cheer Association members.
Regardless of those facts, she is a skilled cheerleader who often criticizes Hizume for holding herself back because she is surrounded by beginners. Eventually, she joins the cheerleading club for Hizume’s sake.

23. Queen Barby
Anime: Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt
Queen Barby is a character from anime called Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, where she served as a supporting character and even in one arc as the main antagonist. She is a female student, formerly a school queen of Daten City High. In the anime, she created a kingdom tailored to her needs. However, after being stung by her pet bee of a nerd, who suffered oppression, and died she became a gargantuan ghost who sought nothing but power.
She was defeated by the main protagonists of the show, Panty, Stocking, and Brief, and was purified to her original state.

22. Akiko Yuuki
Anime: Futari wa Pretty Cure
Akiko is a character for Go! Sonic Precure and her catchphrase are “You are lucky that I have remained factual.” She is quite an arrogant character but brave and strong, and does not stray away from helping her classmates in need, especially the ones handicapped in some way. She is quite direct and because of that can hurt people’s feelings.

21. Moe Yabasawa
Anime: Sket Dance
Moe is a character from the anime Sket Dance, and as the picture suggests is not your conventional cheerleading character. By some standards, she is an overweight and unattractive girl who at first sight, does not care about her appearance. However, she did date some boys but allegedly did it for a bet. She is an extremely confident young woman and part of the cheerleading squad, which can make her quite arrogant to other people. She is unconventional, that is why she is on this list.

20. Gen Hasegawa
Anime: Cheer Boys!!
Gen is one of the characters of Cheer Boys!! series, and another entry on this list. Like his previous colleague on this list, Gen is also a first-year student in university and a member of the cheerleading club, Breakers. He is a flirty guy of the bunch but cares immensely about his friends. He does not like comparisons to Sōichirō Suzuki, because he does not see himself as an equal to him.

19. Ryūzo Sakuma
Anime: Cheer Boys!!
Another entry on this list from the anime Cheer Boys!!, Ryūzo is actually one of the main characters of the show. Another first-year university student is a very outgoing and open character who is passionate about what he does.
He is a very protective individual who does not limit himself or hold back if someone is in need. He is “an energy guy” in the group and very high-spirited, and that is why his teammates love him very much. Of course, his passion comes in at the right time anytime the group is in a slump.

18. Uki Sawatari
Anime: Anima Yell!
Uki is quite a stern character or more specifically, a tsukkomi character who is usually incredulously reacting to anything weird being said in the squad. She is the best friend of Kohane, who most of the time balances her out. Even though she seems angry all the time, sometimes her angry demeanor fades away and her quirkiness comes out.
She is a very talented cheerleader who is very athletic and a great addition to the Cheerleading Association.

17. Kōji Tōno
Anime: Cheer Boys!!
Kōji is another entry on this list from the anime Cheer Boys!! and not your usual cheerleading type. He never played sports so his joining Breakers was welcomed with reluctance. However, even with him not being the most athletic guy on the squad, Kōji is still a very valuable member of the group. He is very patient and understanding which plays a huge role in bringing one of the estranged members of the Breakers Hisashi, who got fed up and left the group.
Differences in characters of the squad do not bother him at all, indeed, he welcomes them with open arms.

16. Manny Ambassada
Anime: Gundam Reconguista in G
Manny is a fictional character from the Gundam Reconguista in G anime series. She is Luin’s girlfriend and like Noredo a student at Saint Flower Academy. She is a member of the cheerleading squad and enters the ranks of the Captial Army looking for Luin Lee. While looking for her boyfriend in a military force, her adventures do not vain.

15. Kazuma Hashimoto
Anime: Cheer Boys!!
Kazuma is one of the main protagonists of Cheer Boys!! and a first-year sociology student at Meishiin University. He is an important part of the Breakers and is generally a very caring guy, especially towards his friends and his loved ones. He is always cheerful which comes in handy with the cheerleading gig he has going on.
On the other hand, he knows how to act during serious situations which makes him mostly a balanced person and teammate. However, despite being cheerful on the outside, he does have a tendency to keep everything inside himself, which is not really healthy.

14. Hizume Arima
Anime: Anima Yell!
Hizume is the so-called leader of the Cheerleading Association because she is the most skillful individual in the group. She is one of the founders of the cheerleading group and because of that one of the leaders. In comparison to her teammates, Hizume actually has experience in cheerleading – she was part of the cheerleading group outside the school before enrolling in high school.
She was the best out of all of her former teammates but started to resent her when they realized they could not keep up with her. That propelled her to leave the squad and forget about cheerleading. Only after Kohane was convinced to found a cheerleading squad on their own, did she decide to do what she loves the most.

13. Lina Davis
Anime: Heroman
Lina Davis is a cheerleader at the Center City Middle School in the anime Heroman. She is the younger sister of William Davis, and one of Joey’s classmates. She is from a wealthy family whose fear of Joey’s influence on her because he is poor is just in bad taste. She is protective of her brother and Joey, even though William is seen “bullying” Joey most of the time.

12. Jinnai Alice
Anime: MAJOR
Alice is a character from the MAJOR anime. She is an interim manager/owner of the minor league team called “Memphis Bats”. She is fluent in both English and Japanese as her mother is American. She is usually really cheerful and outgoing and has a great passion for her team. She is usually seen cheering for her team in her cheerleading uniform.

11. Suzuna Taki
Anime: Eyeshield 21
Suzuna is a self-appointed cheerleader captain for the Deimon Devil Bats and the younger sister of Natsuhiko Taki. She is a cheerful and outgoing girl who has a lot of friends. Her signature rollerblades are always by her side and even ventured to the United States of America. However, she decided to come back to Japan after her brother accepted an offer from the Devil Bats to play with them. Suzune enrolled in the cheerleading squad even though she is not part of the school, but that does not stop her from cheering for her brother.

10. Sakurako Shiina
Anime: Negima!
Sakurako is part of the three cheerleaders in her class. She is the cheerful one of the trio and loves karaoke and her pet cats. She is actually a notorious gambler and is really good at it since she is winning regularly. Besides being a gambling cheerleader, Sakurako also fantasizes a lot about various things and her head is in the clouds nonstop.
All in all, she is cool, weird, quirky, and not what we expected from the cheerleader character, and because of that, she deserves to be on this list.

9. Misa Kakizaki
Anime: Negima!
Misa is another entry from the anime Negima!, Misa is the leader of her cheerleader group which also includes Madoka and Sakurako. She is also a part of the chorus club, and her other hobbies include shopping, and dressing up herself and her teammates in embarrassing outfits. Misa heavily dislikes carbonated drinks and is the only one of the girls who have a steady relationship.

8. Haruki Bandou
Anime: Cheer Boys!!
Haruki is one of the main protagonists of Cheer Boys!! anime. He is also a member of the male cheerleading club. He is a gentle and shy personality. However, he is not afraid to stand up for his friends and loved ones even if means he has to go out of his comfort zone.
Haruki is a burdened young boy who needs to carry a toll of his parent’s expectations, which are differing from what he really wants to be – a cheerleader. He has the full support of his best friend Kazuma, someone who supported him from day one.

7. Madoka Kugimiya
Anime: Negima!
Madoka is another character from the Mahora Academy. She is a serious one of the group and makes sure that other cheerleaders do not get into any trouble, especially Sakurako. She likes gyūdon, silver accessories, and Western music (allegedly Avril Lavigne) but hates playboys. She is oddly obsessed with her husky voice. Regardless of a few weird quirks, Madoka is one of the characters you won’t forget any soon.

6. Naoko Yanagisawa
Anime: Cardcaptor Sakura
Naoko is a character from the anime Cardcaptor Sakura. She is a friend of Sakura Kinomoto, the main protagonist of the show, and is usually shown standing near Sakura at school with Rika Sasaki and Chiharu Mihara. She is part of the cheerleading squad with Sakura, despite being bad at gymnastics.
She loves reading fantasy and ghost stories. While her friends react to scary things with utmost fear, Naoko reacts with fascination and a brave willingness to explore these mysterious situations further.

5. Ran
Anime: Shugo Chara!
Ran was Amu Hinamori’s first Guardian Character to hatch. She represents Amu’s desire to be more honest and athletic. She has ADHD which makes her really unfocused at times but she does her work very well. Her fellow Guardian characters are Miki, Su, and Dia. Ran is really cheerful and encouraging to other people without being depressed, however, besides being very athletic, she does not that any other skills. Moreover, she usually cheers on her friends instead of helping them, which definitely earns her a place on this list.

4. Chiharu Mihara
Anime: Cardcaptor Sakura
Chiharu is one of the main protagonists of the Cardcaptor Sakura and one best friend of Sakura Kinomoto. They are together on the same cheerleading squad. She is the one from whom Sakura gets her advice and a sweet girl that has been friends with Yamazaki since they were very young. She is noble, and respectful of other people, and takes it upon herself to not anyone else fall for other people’s dirty deeds.

3. Kotetsu Tatejima
Anime: Anima Yell!
At first, look seemingly reserved, but Kotetsu can be quite blunt in a conversation. She is insecure about her appearance, weight, and masculine-sounding name. She is a first-year student and a classmate of Kohane and Uki. At first, she was reluctant to join Cheerleading Association because of the fear of performing in front of everyone but was motivated after seeing the squad perform.
She performed as well and go inducted into the squad fairly fast.

2. Sakura Kinomoto
Anime: Cardcaptor Sakura
Sakura is an optimistic girl we saw in the Cardcaptor Sakura anime. She is also really clever and all-around sweet. She treasures her family and friends and has magical powers that she only recently acquired. She is endearing to the point of blushing so much that her face becomes really red. She is a scaredy cat, however, she has her friend Naoko who always helps her get over that fear.
She is the main protagonist of the show, and definitely serves her place on this list.

1. Shinka Nibutani
Anime: Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai
First place on the list of the cheerleading characters you won’t forget is reserved for Shinka Nibutani. She is the main protagonist of the Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai anime. She is part of the Far Eastern Magic Napping Society of Summer, which serves as a base of the operations at the school. She is always friendly and polite in the public, however, in the private she is quite easily irritated and bitter at times, which makes her do some really odd things.
Like every character, Shinka has her flaws and is generally kind-hearted and cares deeply about her friends, and that is why she is in the first place – we value characters who are layered and Shinka is definitely a good example.
