50 Best Thanos Quotes: Movies and Comics

Share:

Thanos is one of the best villains to ever set foot on a big screen. The Mad Titan is also one of the most quoted comics’ villains of all time. Here are the best Thanos quotes, from both MCU movies and comics.

Most Memorable Thanos Quotes from the MCU Movies

“I am inevitable.”

Well, start easy with Thanos quotes, with the one he used many times during his MCU run. Well, this one on the image is the last time we hear him say it (I hope not).

“You’re strong, but I could snap my fingers and you’d all cease to exist. It’s a small price to pay for salvation.”

Thanos’s quote from Avengers: Infinity War shows that even that he agrees Avengers are strong, with all six Infinite Stones … one snap of his fingers and they are dust.

“This universe is finite, its resources, finite. If life is left unchecked, life will cease to exist.”

He was probably right with this quote from Avengers Infinity War, but his way was not the right way. Also, in the end, we saw that this wasn’t really what he was looking for. In the end, he was JUST a Mad Titan.

“You’re quite the fighter. Gamora. Come. Let me help you. [Thanos offers his hand; she wraps her little fingers around one massive finger, and he leads her to a pavilion, where he crouches to her eye level again and produces a small – for him – red-jeweled handle. Pressing the switch, razor-sharp blades pop out both ends.] Look. Pretty, isn’t it? Perfectly balanced, as all things should be….Too much to one side, or the other… [He balances it on one finger, overbalances it purposefully and catches it.] Here. You try.”

Another Thanos quote from the Avengers: Infinity War (there will be a lot from this movie). He shows Gamora why, in his head, he is doing all those horrible things, and tries to learn her his ways. But soon finds out, it won’t be so easy.

“Fun isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe. But this… does put a smile on my face.”
Thanos Quotes

We rarely seen him smile, he was a man with a mission, not someone that wants to have fun. Still, as we see from this quote, he did smile from time to time (in between destroying half the universe). This quote almost made it to the Avengers: Infinity War, but in the end, it ended only in the trailer as well as in deleted scenes of the movie.

“You’re not the only one cursed with knowledge.”

Stark and Mad Titan for the first time head to head. Some curses are said, and we find out that Iron Man isn’t the only guy with bad nightmares. Looks like Thanos was dreaming about him as well.

“You have my respect, Stark. When I’m done, half of humanity will still be alive. I hope they remember you.”

He shows respect where respect is due! In this amazing and already cult scene, Thanos defeats Iron Man as shows us how much respect he has for him in this great quote.

“The work is done. I won. What I’m about to do, I’m gonna enjoy it. Very, very much!”

In this Thanos quote, we see that his goal isn’t only to ‘save’ the universe from too much life, but that he really is a Mad Titan and that he enjoys his crazy destruction.

“I know what it’s like to lose. To feel so desperately that you’re right, yet to fail nonetheless. It’s frightening, turns the legs to jelly. I ask you to what end? Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same. And now it’s here. Or should I say, I am.”

Not many have managed to defeat Thor, but Thor, Hulk and Loki at the same time, no one managed to do that, except great Thanos. This would be my favorite Thanos quote, and it is not hard to see why.

“Undying? You should choose your words more carefully.”

Looks like Loki was right about this part. It looks like he really is ‘undying. Well, maybe not that version of Loki, but still… Again, one more well-put Thanos quote.

“I ignored my destiny once, I can not do that again. Even for you. I’m sorry Little one.”

As we have seen, Thanos really had a heart, and he throws it off the hill. It really needs a strong will for something like that. Also, a completely crazy head, but ok. This quote by Thanos touches us where we really didn’t expect from him.

“You were going to bed hungry, scrounging for scraps. Your planet was on the brink of collapse. I’m the one who stopped that. You know what’s happened since then? The children born have known nothing but full bellies and clear skies. It’s a paradise.”

Thanos the savior? Could it be? Nah, it is all just in his head. Even though his explanation had some meaning, he could also just make more of everything, not destroy it. Still, a very good monologue from a Mad Titan.

“Everything.”

In this quote, Thanos says only one word, but it means ‘everything’ to us and him. A really touching scene, even for a monster like him.

“The hardest choices require the strongest wills.”

He again shows how strong a will he has. Avengers want to do everything to save the world and universe, but he wants even more to destroy it, or at least it’s half.

“I finally rest, and watch the sunrise on a grateful universe. The hardest choices require the strongest wills.”

Thanos one more time repeats its famous quote, this time much weaker in strength, but still strong-willed. You can check both quotes in the video above and compare them.

“I thought that by eliminating half of life, the other half would thrive. But you have shown me… that’s impossible. As long as there are those that remember what was, there will always be those, that are unable to accept what can be. They will resist..”

He gave the Avengers an amazing speech before kicking their asses. This calm quote is happening just before the storm comes in Avengers: Endgame.

“I’ve come home. Because I’m tired of running from who I am. From who I was born to be.”

Thanos on his home on Titan with one more deep quote from Avengers: Infinity War. On Titan, he was really full of it, and was sharing those quotes left and right.

“You should have gone for the head”

In the scene where he was almost defeated, we again see how his will is strong. With all that pain and Stormbreaker somewhere in his shoulder, he still manages to defeat half the universe. Not even God was enough to stop him.

“I will shred this universe down to its last atom and then, with the stones you’ve collected for me, create a new one. It is not what is lost but only what it is been given… a grateful universe.”

The second time around, or for him the first time, Thanos really learned to hate Avengers, as well as the whole Earth. He decided to learn them a lesson this time (or he learned it), and now doesn’t want only to destroy half the universe, but the whole universe. After that, he wants to create his own, grateful universe.

“You couldn’t live with your own failure. Where did that bring you, back to me?”

An amazing scene, one of the best in the Endgame, followed but not one, but two amazing quotes, or better to say, with a longer Thanos monologue. We already mentioned the second part of this quote above, but in this video, you can see both parts of it.

With this amazing Thanos quote, we will finish the movie part of this list and continue with the best Thanos quotes from the comics.

Most Memorable Thanos Quotes from the Comics

“It sounds ludicrous, I know, but… Sometimes, I believe I can remember the day I was born. I remember you holding me for the first time and the look of… horror that came over your face. And then you picked up a scalpel and tried to murder me. I’m sorry, mother. I’m sorry they wouldn’t let you.”

Thanos quote to Sui-San, his mother, in Thanos Rising Vol 1. #003.

“The seemingly all-powerful Goddess has recruited to her service some of Earth’s most powerful and noble heroes. Though misguided, they fight for a cause they absolutely believe in. On the other hand, your comrades have Thanos of Titan as an ally. Admittedly a dubious honor, but also a definitive advantage.”

Thanos about his adversaries and himself in Infinity Crusade.

“I, Thanos, gaze upon the cold vastness of space and muse upon my life. Both, I find, are empty.”

Thanos monologue about his, not so impressive, life in Thanos Quest.

“Earth. That is my price.”

Thanos quote in Infinity Gauntlet.

“I hold the galaxy in my palm — ready to crush it like an eggshell! All who oppose me must die — and the first of these are the Earthian superheroes! Destroy them — with all dispatch!”

This quote just shows how much Thanos hates Avengers in Marvel Feature Vol 1 #12.

“A disciple of Death… versus a Lord of Destruction. Tell me then, Darkseid… would you care to make a wager on the outcome?”

Thanos quote from the clash of the comic universes in Marvel Versus DC Vol 1 #2.

“Science and a benevolent nature have allowed thousands of different species to flourish beyond the capability of their environs to sustain them.”

Thanos quote from Silver Surfer Vol 3 #35.

“To claim that Thanos, Death’s truest servant, would drop progeny! Now that is truly unforgivable.”

Another great Thanos quote from Silver Surfer Vol 3 #38.

“Your fate will lay heavily on my heart, though by all rights it shouldn’t. I did not force you to fight me. I gave you the chance to surrender the Gem. You forced me into doing what I did. I had to be faithful to my nature. For, after all, I am Thanos.”

Thanos is always faithful to his nature and you can see this clearly in Thanos Quest Vol 1 #1.

“For I am transformed! I have left the mortal plane behind me! In truth I have risen above the mantle of godhood! Even celestial status is now below me! The Infinity Gems have given me the power of Supreme Being!”

Thanos becomes one of the strongest characters in Marvel Universe in Silver Surfer Vol 3 #44.

“Destiny waits for no man. Not even one who shall bring the universe to its knees.”

It’s always ‘destiny’ somewhere when Thanos is included and this quote is from the Silver Surfer Vol 3 #49.

“I, alone, have looked into the darkened corners of your soul… and know you for what you truly are.”

Thanos knows your deepest, darkest secrets, that is exactly what happened in Silver Surfer Vol 3 #50.

“Fools taking up arms against omnipotence. They rush head-on into Armageddon. So I shall provide them with a most glorious doomsday! The heavens will run red with blood. But in the end, as always, Thanos will stand triumphant.”

Well, for Thanos, at least, you can never say he wasn’t immodest! There were a few pesty superheroes standing in his way in Infinity Gauntlet Vol 1 #3.

“Mistress Death? You too betray me?”

They have all failed him, even his biggest love in Infinity Gauntlet Vol 1 #5.

“At this moment no living thing in the universe will die. Not the lowliest bacteria nor grandest Celestial. While stars collapse and implode, blown to dust all that possesses “life” refuses oblivion. All of it lives on despite its destiny, in defiance of the engine of evolution that culls the weak. All of it, Wilson, but you. I am the only reason you live. And because Thanos decrees it, you will die.”

Thanos is one of the only two people that managed to kill Deadpool, and you can check it out in Deadpool vs. Thanos Vol 1 #1.

“They have, finally and for all time, shown the galaxy that they are a swarm of irresponsible, unevolved organisms, that must be put down before they destroy us all. Say goodbye to your home planet, Peter. Once word gets out that they ripped reality… Nothing will save them. And now you know… your father was right. That I, Thanos was right. The Earth needs to be punished.”

Thanos, and well, all bad galactic beings, want to destroy Earth. Nothing is different in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 #5.

“He says you were a failed experiment… a weakling, a runt, deemed unlikely to survive the rigors of the tests. Doomed from conception and yet you lived. Thrived, even. I… respect that.”

In this quote, Thanos gives his respect to Deadpool. We all know that is not easy to get, but he did give it in Deadpool vs. Thanos Vol 1 #3.

“You would think, by now, that my Reputation would precede me…”

You just can’t believe some people. After all this time, they still don’t know who the Mad Titan is. Check it out in Thanos Vol 1 #8.

“I came here for my father. I did not come seeking a fight. No one else needed to die today. But if it is a fight you want, it is a fight you shall have. If it is death you want, it is death you shall have.”

Thanos is never the one fleeing from the fight, and it is no different in Thanos Vol 2 #3.

“I am Thanos of Titan. I have conquered worlds. I have bent reality around my will. Men cower at the mere mention of my name. And now… now you have imprisoned me… mocked me… disrespected me. And here you stand, ready to take advantage to my condition. Ready to finish me. Well, if I am to fall, I will die showing you all that Thanos will not be disrespected. Thanos is still a conqueror. Thanos is still a warrior. Thanos is still a god. And you will either bow or be broken!”

It is not a good idea to disrespect the Mad Titan as you can see in Thanos Vol 2 #6 which you can find inside this three-book series.

“Strength and energy are the same despite its title or claim, Asgardian. Your supposed heavenly status impresses Thanos of Titan not in the least.”

Thanos can’t be intimidated even by a real God. The Mad Titan is not afraid even from the all Mighty Odin, as seen from the above quote in the Warlock and the Infinity Watch #25.

“I did not ask for your trust. I demand only your obedience.”

There are only a few things Thanos needs, and you better be ready to comply, as soon as in Secret Defenders Vol 1 #12.

“There are many actors in this grand drama, and I, Thanos, appear to be the only participant with a full grasp on the situation.”

No matter how big the stage is, there is only one main character in it, Thanos the Mad Titan! You can find this Thanos quote in Infinity Crusade Vol 1 #4.

“Behind each door waits further myriad treasures. The bounty is as diverse as the stars within the heavens. But the gilded goal I seek is the most precious of all. Further enlightenment.”

Thanos has higher goals than probably any other being in the universe, and you can check it out in Warlock and the Infinity Watch Vol 1 #10.

“”All work and no fair play.” Words to live by.”

Thanos never plays fair, he only has goals, means to get to them are not important, as seen in Silver Surfer Vol 3 #59.

“Then let the gleam be fanned to a roaring flame! Let the battle begin!”

Thanos was never the one to run away from the fight. He even lets it be known in a quote on the front page of the Infinity Gauntlet Vol 1 #4 comic.

“What care I for the fate of three souls… when the entire universe is mine to control?!”

Thanos doesn’t have time to care about small things, he has a bigger picture on his mind, as seen in Cloak and Dagger Vol 3 #18.

“Elders are not the only ones capable of cheating.”

Thanos has all the moves so you really have to be careful. You can see his cheating and this quote in Thanos Quest Vol 1 #2.

“You’ve gone too far, Mar-Vell! Bringing in the Avengers could slow my plans!”

Even Thanos knows that sometimes his plans could be altered, that is why he really doesn’t like the Avengers. You can check out this Thanos quote in the Captain Marvel Vol 1 #31.

“Today the evil was soundly defeated.”

Thanos stands on the side of good, and his own agenda, in Infinity War Vol 1 #6.
