Billy Maximoff Returns! Joe Locke Reprises His Marvel Role in ‘VisionQuest’
Marvel’s ‘VisionQuest’ has barely started streaming, and it’s already sending fans back into the tangled family history of the Maximoff twins. The final chapter of Marvel Television’s trilogy, following ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Agatha All Along’, premiered on Disney+ on October 14 with its first 2 episodes. New installments arrive on Wednesdays across its 8-episode run.
Created and run by Terry Matalas, the series brings back Paul Bettany as White Vision, searching for purpose in a world shaped by Thanos and Wanda’s absence. James Spader plays Ultron, Todd Stashwick plays the bounty hunter Paladin, T’Nia Miller plays the vengeful robot Jocasta, and Ruaridh Mollica steps in as the grown-up Tommy Maximoff.
Now Mollica has let slip the reunion many viewers were hoping for. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he confirmed that Joe Locke will return as Billy Maximoff, Tommy’s twin brother, in ‘VisionQuest’. He also confirmed that he shot scenes with Locke for the series.
The confirmation matters because the brothers’ story was left hanging. Wanda created Billy and Tommy with chaos magic inside the Westview anomaly, and their bodies vanished when she dismantled it. Billy managed to preserve their souls, but Tommy’s became separated from his brother’s.

In ‘Agatha All Along’, Billy placed Tommy’s soul into Thomas Shepherd, a teenager who had recently drowned. The series ended with Billy setting off alongside a ghostly Agatha to find his missing twin.
‘VisionQuest’ picks up Tommy’s side of that story. He’s now living in London as Thomas Shepherd, working as a street grifter, which leaves plenty of room for a long-awaited reunion with the brother who has been searching for him.

Even before Mollica’s comments, sharp-eyed viewers were convinced Billy had been hiding in plain sight. In Episode 1, a young man in a brown jacket and neck scarf walks past Tommy as he leaves a pub and later appears in the background of another scene.
Fans on X quickly pointed out that the figure resembled Locke’s version of the character. That fueled theories that Billy is secretly watching over his long-lost twin. Marvel hasn’t confirmed whether that background figure is Billy, and a couple of brief appearances can’t settle it. Still, with Mollica now confirming Locke is part of the show, the theory looks a lot more plausible than it did a few days ago.

The pairing comes with a fun behind-the-scenes connection. Mollica and Locke have acted together before, playing a couple in a stage production, according to reports on the ET interview. Mollica reportedly described filming with Locke again as an amazing experience.
There’s another twist in how Mollica ended up in the Maximoff family at all. In an interview with Pedestrian Daily, he explained that he once attended a Marvel audition without knowing what the role was. He only realized afterward that he had read for Billy, the part Locke went on to play in ‘Agatha All Along’.

Bettany, who sat alongside him for that conversation, joked that the casting was always meant to be. It’s a neat bit of symmetry: the actor who nearly played 1 twin ended up playing the other.
Locke’s return gives ‘VisionQuest’ an emotional anchor beyond Vision’s own journey. The show is a story about a synthetic being searching for identity, and having both of Wanda’s sons in it ties that journey back to the family story that began in Westview.
It also keeps the door open for the twins’ future in the wider MCU. Fans have long hoped to see the brothers together on screen, and ‘VisionQuest’ now looks set to deliver that. Some outlets have speculated about other ‘Agatha All Along’ faces turning up, but nothing beyond Locke’s return has been confirmed. For now, fans will have to keep scanning the background of every scene as new episodes roll out.
