‘Black Doves’ Season 2 Trailer Puts Keira Knightley’s Spy Right at the Heart of Power

Netflix’s ‘Black Doves’ became one of the streamer’s standout surprises when it arrived at the end of 2024. Created by Joe Barton, the British spy thriller starred Keira Knightley as Helen Webb, a spy posing as a politician’s wife who teams up with an old assassin friend in search of truth and vengeance after learning her secret lover has been murdered.

Collider described the show as a perfect mix of James Bond and John Wick, praising it as one of Netflix’s most intense hand-to-hand combat series. After a record-shattering debut, Netflix renewed it for a second season, but updates stayed quiet for much of 2025.

Now fans finally have their first proper look at what’s next. On September 24, Netflix released the official trailer for ‘Black Doves’ Season 2, confirming that all 6 hour-long episodes will drop on November 5.

The 2-minute preview quickly caught fire online. One of its standout shots shows a crush of photographers and cameras gathered outside a police-guarded black front door, hinting at the political spotlight now surrounding Helen’s family.

That spotlight is the key to the new season. According to the official logline, Helen is still betraying her nation’s secrets to the Black Doves, but with her husband Wallace, played by Andrew Buchan, preparing to become Prime Minister, she’s walking a more treacherous line than ever.

Barton has explained that Helen’s position has never been more powerful, or more precarious. “She’s literally the spy at the heart of government, so she’s kind of reached the pinnacle of where she can get to,” Barton told Netflix Tudum, adding that at the same time, her handler, Reed, goes missing.

Sarah Lancashire’s enigmatic Mrs. Reed is caught in a ruthless plot to undermine her position within the organization, pulling Helen back toward her best friend Sam, played by Ben Whishaw. The logline notes that the once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits.

In one tense moment from the trailer, Helen says she’d like to know who she’s actually risking her life and freedom for, a line that suggests her loyalty to the Black Doves may finally be cracking.

Season 2 brings a much bigger ensemble. Ambika Mod and Neve Campbell join the cast, with Campbell playing Cecile Mason, while Babou Ceesay, Sam Riley, Sylvia Hoeks, Goran Kostic, and Samuel Barnett also appear.

Familiar faces are returning too. Kathryn Hunter, Ella Lily Hyland, Gabrielle Creevy, and Agnes O’Casey are back, and The Hollywood Reporter notes Molly Chesworth also reprises her role from Season 1.

The logline promises that Helen and Sam’s mission will lead them back to old friends and enemies, through the dark decisions of their pasts, and right to the heart of the Black Doves organization.

Barton writes and executive produces the series through his company Noisy Bear, with Knightley executive producing alongside Jane Featherstone and Chris Fry of Sister. Julian Farino and Kieron Hawkes direct the new season, while Callum Devrell-Cameron produces.

The Playlist called the show slick and noted its well-received first season, while JoBlo admitted the series flew under the radar the first time around but that the new trailer might make a catch-up session worthwhile.

‘Black Doves’ Season 2 premieres on Netflix on November 5, with all 6 episodes arriving at once. Season 1 is streaming now, making it the perfect time for newcomers to dive into Helen and Sam’s deadly world before the new conspiracy unfolds.
