Bleach: Here Is Who (& How) Killed Luppi Antenor!
The Arrancar are a thing of the past when Bleach is concerned, but thanks to Mayuri Kurotsuchi, four of them have once again come into the spotlight, as he managed to revive them and use them as part of his “Corpse Unit” later in the story. One of them is Luppi Antenor, the former Sexta Espada, and in this article, we are going to reveal what actually happened to Luppi in the story, i.e., who killed him and how, as it is important to know because it reflects on his current story in the anime.
Luppi Antenor became the Sexta Espada once Grimmjow was stripped of his rank for disobedience; Luppi attacked the World of the Living with a few of his allies, facing, among others, Rangiku and Toshiro Hitsugaya. But, after Orihime healed Grimmjow’s arm, he simply killed Luppi and took his rank back. Luppi’s body was then given to Szayelapporo, from whose laboratory Mayuri stole it and then revived the Arrancar to help him against Quincy. He was later driven by his desire to kill Grimmjow, as he wanted to avenge his own death at his hands.
The rest of this article will tell the story of Luppi Antenor, the former Sexta Espada. We will tell you what happened to him from the beginning to the end and provide details from the sequel light novel, which told us more about Luppi’s fate after the Quincy Blood War. This article will be your go-to guide to the character of Luppi Antenor and his story in Bleach, so you can expect a thrilling text. Of course, the article will also contain many spoilers, so if you’re not fully acquainted with the whole story from the Aranncar Saga, you should carefully approach the article.
Luppi Antenor was killed by Grimmjow early on in the Arrancar Saga, which is why he wanted to avenge himself later
Luppi Antenor is an Arrancar and was temporarily the Sexta Espada in Sōsuke Aizen’s army as a temporary replacement for Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, who was excluded from the Espada due to a missing arm. However, after Grimmjow’s arm was healed again by Orihime Inoue’s abilities, Luppi was killed by Grimmjow.
Luppi’s remains later came into the possession of the Octava Espada, Szayelaporro Granz. After his defeat, Luppi’s body came into the possession of the Captain of the 12th Division of Gotei 13, Mayuri Kurotsuchi, who reassembled Luppi’s remains and revived him. This is Luppi’s short story, and we will now give you a detailed overview of what happened to him.
Luppi first appears during the creation of Wonderweiss Margela, in which he takes part along with many other Espada. Since Kaname Tōsen severed Grimmjow’s arm, Luppi temporarily took over the position of the Sexta Espada from him, boasting in his face. When the Arrancar were supposed to create a distraction in Karakura on behalf of Sōsuke Aizen so that Orihime Inoue could be kidnapped to Hueco Mundo, Luppi also unknowingly went into this world.
After arriving in Karakura, he first fought against Yumichika Ayasegawa, who quickly couldn’t keep up with the Espada. When Luppi got bored, he asked Ikkaku Madarame to face him as well, i.e., for a 2-against-1 fight. But this went against Ikkaku’s principles.
He then asked Yammy, who fought a short fight against Tōshirō Hitsugaya, to hand over this opponent to him and release his Zanpakutō. The Captain of the 10th Division, knowing the danger posed by a Resurrección, immediately activated his Bankai to stop the Espada from doing so. However, the Shinigami failed to do this and was pushed back by one of Luppi’s tentacles.
Luppi reveals that the Shinigami are not dealing with one opponent but with eight, one for each of his tentacles. So he managed to get Tōshirō out of the way for now with the concentrated power of all his tentacles. He then turned his attention to the other three, Shinigami, Yumichika, Ikkaku, and Rangiku Matsumoto, interrupting their fight with Wonderweiss. The Espada quickly brought the three Shinigami to the edge of their strength and grabbed them with his tentacles.
However, just as he is about to pierce Rangiku Matsumoto’s, as he described it, “sexy body” with his spiked tentacles, Kisuke Urahara appears and cuts off Luppi’s tentacle so that Rangiku is freed. But before Luppi can take care of Kisuke, the Decima Espada turns to the shopkeeper and begins his revenge for the severed arm.
Luppi now quickly turns to his previous opponents, wanting to continue where he previously left off and quickly has Rangiku in his grasp again. After she provokes him and tells him that he talks more than he should, Luppi wants to reach out and kill her with his tentacles. But these are unable to move because a thick layer of ice covers them.
This comes from Tōshirō, who had previously survived Luppi’s attack and was waiting for a suitable opportunity to strike back. Tōshirō now uses his Bankai technique Sennen Hyōrō, in which Luppi is surrounded on all sides with ice pillars. The ice pillars then enclose the Espada, and Luppi appears defeated. After the actual mission has been completed, Luppi and the other Arrancar who have left for this world are saved by the Negación. Thanks to Negación, Luppi manages to free himself from the ice, whereupon he swears revenge on Tōshirō Hitsugaya.
Back in Hueco Mundo, the true motive for the action in Karakura emerged – Orihime Inoue’s kidnapping. Luppi, who appears anything but enthusiastic about Orihime, as he thinks that such a combat mission would have been far too much effort, quickly expresses his displeasure about it.
Aizen then asks Orihime to show them her powers by recovering Grimmjow’s arm, which Kaname Tōsen cut off. Luppi doubts Orihime’s abilities and threatens to kill her if she fails. But she manages to bring back Grimmjow’s arm and, at his request, his Espada tattoo. So after Grimmjow got his arm back, he killed Luppi by piercing him with his bare hand to regain his rank as Sexta Espada.
Luppi’s dead body was then given to Szayelapporo, and Mayuri would later find it in Szayelapporo’s laboratory. During the Quincy Blood War, Mayuri realized the potential of the Arrancar, and he repaired Luppi’s body and revived him, along with three other Arrancar, so that they could help them against the Sternritter, which they did.
Mayuri kept them alive even after the War, as was confirmed in the Can’t Fear Your Own World sequel light novel, where Luppi Antenor realized that he did not want revenge on Toshiro, as he initially thought, but rather on Grimmjow, whom he blames for his fate and who was the one that actually killed him. The two of them actually did have an epic clash in the second volume of the light novel, but Luppi survived and is still “alive” in the same state that Mayuri left him in.
