‘Blue Exorcist’ Author Kazue Katō Reimagines ‘Moana 2’ as an Anime

Moana 2 was one of 2024’s biggest hits. And while the hype around the sequel wasn’t as big as the one surrounding the original movie, Moana 2 grossed an amazing $1.059 billion, outperforming the first movie and becoming the third highest-grossing movie of the year.
The series was continued in a proper way and it seems that it has been an inspiration for authors all around the world. If you remember, last year we reported on Japanese anime artist Gensho Yasuda collaborating on an anime version of Moana and the tradition continues.
This one is not a video, but a popular mangaka has just published his anime-style reimagined illustration of Moana 2 and it’s amazing!
The mangaka in question is Kazue Katō, best known as the author of the popular Blue Exorcist series, which has recently seen a renaissance thanks to the return of the anime series. Using his specific style, Kazue Katō reimagined Moana 2 as an anime:
As you can see, all the main characters are there and this is a truly beautiful rendering of the popular animated movie. It combines Katō’s specific style with the spirit of the animated film and creates an image that both respects the spirit of the animated movie, as well as Katō’s manga origins.
It is a true work of art and the fans are really satisfied with it. We don’t know if Disney will react to this in any way, but we believe it would be great if they shared this sketch officially, thereby giving Katō the credit he deserves.
