A charity auction in Los Angeles once created a surprising Hollywood moment involving actor Brad Pitt and Emilia Clarke. During a fundraiser organized by Sean Penn in January 2018, Pitt joined a bidding war for the chance to watch an episode of Game of Thrones together with Clarke.

The event was held at Milk Studios and was part of Penn’s annual charity evening supporting Haiti relief efforts. The auction helped raise funds for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization and other disaster recovery programs. Many celebrities attended the fundraiser and took part in different auctions throughout the night.

One of the most talked-about items offered to guests was the chance to watch the popular HBO series with Clarke present. The experience was part of a public charity auction, not a private date. According to reports from the event, the bidding opened at $20,000.

Pitt quickly joined the bidding. The actor, known to be a fan of the show, first offered $80,000. The moment became even more entertaining when Clarke’s co-star Kit Harington suggested he could also attend the viewing. After that, Pitt raised his offer to $120,000.

Even with the higher bid, Pitt did not win the prize. Another guest in the room eventually secured the experience with a final offer of $160,000. Reports said Pitt remained engaged and enthusiastic during the auction despite losing the item.

The fundraiser gathered a number of well-known figures from entertainment and business. Among those present were Leonardo DiCaprio, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lena Dunham and Jeff Bezos. DiCaprio also joined the art auction portion of the night. He reportedly bid on a painting by artist Josh Smith but was outbid by Schwarzenegger.

Clarke later talked about the moment during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. She said she noticed Pitt during the bidding and found the situation amusing.

“There was an auction for a charity do that I was asked to take part in so I offered time with myself and as the bidding started I realised Brad Pitt was trying to buy me,” Clarke said. “I looked across the room and he had his paddle up! Sadly, he was outbid and it didn’t work out.”

The actress also described the bidding war as an unforgettable moment. In later interviews, she said the experience felt surreal and exciting, even calling it “the best night of [her] life.”

Even though Pitt did not win the auction item, the evening achieved its main goal. The charity event raised millions of dollars for relief work in Haiti and showed how major stars often support fundraising efforts.

Moments like this show how charity events can mix entertainment with real impact. Celebrities bidding on unusual experiences can help attract attention and raise more money for important causes.

It also reminds people that even famous actors can get caught up in the excitement of a live auction.
