Brad Pitt Brings ‘Heart of the Beast’ Home for a Nashville-Area World Premiere

Brad Pitt has spent the better part of four decades proving he can do just about anything on screen, from a courtroom to a racetrack. But few of his recent roles have asked as much of him physically and emotionally as his latest survival thriller.

That film finally had its moment in the spotlight this week, and the setting was anything but typical for a major studio premiere.

‘Heart of the Beast’ held its world premiere on Wednesday evening at the FirstBank Amphitheater in Franklin, Tennessee, just outside Nashville, with Pitt walking the red carpet ahead of the screening. The Paramount Pictures release marks Pitt’s second collaboration with director David Ayer, following their 2014 war drama ‘Fury,’ and the choice of a Tennessee venue for a global premiere gave the event a distinctly different feel from the usual Hollywood rollout.

‘Heart of the Beast’ follows James Belmont, a retired Army Special Forces officer played by Pitt, who becomes stranded in the Alaskan wilderness alongside his former combat dog, Odin, after their plane crashes. The film centers on their fight to survive brutal conditions together, leaning heavily into what the official synopsis describes as an exploration of the bond between a soldier and his loyal companion.

The cast also includes J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe, with a screenplay from Cameron Alexander. Pitt produced the film alongside Olivia Hamilton, Marty Bowen and Ayer, with filmmaker Damien Chazelle serving as one of the executive producers.

Ahead of its wide theatrical release, the film has already made the festival rounds. Pitt and Ayer brought ‘Heart of the Beast’ to the San Sebastián Film Festival, where it screened out of competition, marking Pitt’s first appearance at the festival in 17 years. He also joined Ayer and the film’s canine star, a dog named Uber who plays Odin, for a Q&A following an earlier screening at Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles.

Wednesday’s Franklin premiere was free and open to the public, a departure from the typically exclusive industry premieres held in Los Angeles or New York. Pitt was joined on the red carpet outside the amphitheater by girlfriend Ines de Ramon, with the two arriving together ahead of the screening before the film made its way toward a nationwide release.

‘Heart of the Beast’ is scheduled to open in theaters on September 25, giving audiences their first wide-scale chance to see the survival story that has been building buzz since its trailer debuted earlier this year. Early reactions to that trailer leaned heavily into the emotional stakes of the man-and-dog dynamic at the film’s center, with plenty of attention going to Odin’s own battle scars, including a prosthetic leg and damaged teeth from his combat service.

For Ayer, the film represents a return to the kind of grounded, character-driven intensity that defined ‘Fury,’ this time swapping a World War II tank for the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness. For Pitt, it’s another entry in a late-career stretch that has seen him take on physically demanding roles across very different genres, from high-speed racing to now, quite literally, the wild.
