Brad Pitt once tried to secure a night with Emilia Clarke, but he was ultimately outbid. The “Fight Club” star reportedly offered $120,000 (£90,000) for the chance to spend an evening with the “Game of Thrones” actress, but another attendee won the bid with $160,000 (£121,000).

It’s important to clarify that this wasn’t a romantic or private “date” situation, as some might assume. The auction offered a very public and safe charity experience: watching an episode of “Game of Thrones” with Clarke herself in attendance.

The auction took place in January 2018 during Sean Penn’s annual Haiti fundraiser in Los Angeles. Held at Milk Studios, the silent auction aimed to raise money for J/P HRO and other disaster relief organizations. The event attracted a number of high-profile stars, showing how committed Hollywood can be to charitable causes.

According to reports, the bidding for the “Game of Thrones” night with Clarke started at $20,000 (£15,100). Pitt first bid $80,000 (£60,500) and later increased it to $120,000 (£90,000). But an unidentified attendee ultimately secured the experience for $160,000 (£121,000).

The event was filled with celebrities. Clarke’s co-star Kit Harington, Jeff Bezos, Leonardo DiCaprio, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Lena Dunham were all in attendance. Jon Snow himself, Harington, was even said to have offered to join in on the evening, adding a playful twist to the auction.

Clarke later spoke about the experience during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. She admitted she noticed Pitt bidding and found it amusing. “There was an auction for a charity do that I was asked to take part in so I offered time with myself and as the bidding started I realised Brad Pitt was trying to buy me,” Clarke said. “I looked across the room and he had his paddle up! Sadly, he was outbid and it didn’t work out.”

Although Pitt didn’t win the bid, the event was a huge success for charity. DiCaprio also made waves during the art auction portion of the evening. He bid $80,000 on a painting by Josh Smith but was outbid by Schwarzenegger, who took it home for $90,000 (£68,000). A second painting allowed DiCaprio to leave with a piece of art despite losing the first.

The fundraiser showed just how willing celebrities are to contribute to charitable causes while also creating entertaining moments for attendees. Even if Pitt didn’t get his “Game of Thrones” night with Clarke, his bid contributed to raising millions for relief efforts in Haiti.

It’s always fun to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this from Hollywood charity events. It shows that even A-list stars can get caught up in the excitement of bidding for a good cause, and sometimes lose to someone else.
