Brad Pitt’s ‘Heart of the Beast’ Keeps Fetching Box Office Gold as Its Man-And-Dog Thriller Turns Into a Global Hit
Every so often, a simple idea quietly outperforms the giant franchises around it. David Ayer’s ‘Heart of the Beast’ is exactly that kind of film, a stripped-down survival story built around a man, a dog, and an unforgiving stretch of wilderness.
It stars Brad Pitt as James Belmont, a retired Special Forces veteran who also works as a bush pilot. After a seaplane crash in the Alaskan wilderness, he and Odin, his traumatized German Shepherd combat dog, must make a grueling trek to safety.
Paramount released the film on September 25, and it has been steadily climbing ever since. It opened to $20 million domestically and $30.1 million overseas across 63 markets, giving it a $50.1 million global debut that beat industry projections.
It continued to hold up in the weeks that followed. By the end of its second weekend, it was approaching $100 million worldwide, and by October 11 it had grossed $131 million. Now, a fresh update shows the film has gone even further. Box office tracker Luiz Fernando reported on October 19 that ‘Heart of the Beast’ has crossed $150 million worldwide, with a global total of $155.5 million.
#BradPitt has crossed the 150M mark at Global #BoxOffice, after #DavidAyer’s actioner #HeartOfTheBeast had another sensational hold overseas grossing strong 9M on 4th weekend, just a -35.3% drop from last weekend, for a 97.2M intl. cume over 66 markets. Allied to its 58.3M cume in the US, the dog loving movie, with a 82M production price tag not including marketing, hits a 155.5M Global cume! Eyeing a 175M-200M Global run

Overseas, the movie grossed another $9 million on its fourth weekend, a drop of just 35.3% from the previous frame, bringing its international total to $97.2 million across more than 66 markets. Combined with $58.3 million in the United States, the post calls the dog-loving film a hit against its $82 million production budget, not counting marketing, and projects a final global run of $175 million to $200 million.
The numbers are also reshaping the director’s résumé. When the film opened, it was already in the top 5 of David Ayer’s highest-grossing movies, overtaking ‘Sabotage’. It has since passed ‘A Working Man’, which earned $89.4 million, and now sits close to ‘The Beekeeper’ at $162.6 million. Higher up, ‘Fury’ made about $211.8 million, while ‘Suicide Squad’ remains well out of reach at $749.2 million.

For Pitt, the movie is also moving up his own list. According to Koimoi, it was the 25th highest-grossing film of his career at the North American box office, trailing 1990s hits ‘Sleepers’ and ‘Twelve Monkeys’.
At that time, it needed to reach $66 million domestically to break into his top 20, and with $58.3 million now in the bank, that threshold looks within reach. The same outlet noted it would need more than $120 million to enter his top 10. Reviews have been warm. The film holds roughly 85% on Rotten Tomatoes from 181 critics, a 66 on Metacritic, and an A- CinemaScore from opening-weekend audiences.
Writers have described it as a love story between a man and his dog, with some praising Pitt’s performance and the emotional payoff. Gulf News called the dog the star, noting that a German Shepherd named Uber plays Odin, with 4 dogs sharing the role across the shoot. Ayer also confirmed before release that the dog lives.
JoBlo noted that the director, who made ‘Fury’, ‘The Beekeeper’ and ‘Suicide Squad’, steps into more elegiac territory here. It’s less explosive than his previous film with Pitt, trading large-scale combat for a quieter story about trauma and companionship.

The movie runs 101 minutes and is rated PG-13 for violence, peril, and some language. J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe round out the cast. With the film still in theaters, the next few weeks will reveal whether it reaches that projected $175 million to $200 million range.
A run on the higher end would put it ahead of ‘The Beekeeper’ and closer to ‘Fury’, cementing it as one of Ayer’s biggest hits. For now, Pitt and Odin have proved that a heartfelt survival story can still draw a crowd, and that audiences will gladly follow a good dog anywhere.
