Brad Pitt’s Mother Jane Pitt Passes Away at 84, Family Honors Her Legacy
Jane Pitt, the mother of actor Brad Pitt, has passed away at the age of 84. The news was shared earlier this week by her granddaughter, Sydney Pitt, on Instagram.
Jane died on Tuesday, August 5, according to her obituary. She is survived by her husband, William Alvin “Bill” Pitt, and their three children, Brad, Doug, and Julie Neal. Jane was known as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Sydney, who is Doug Pitt’s daughter, posted a heartfelt message online remembering her grandmother. In the caption, she shared what Jane meant to her and the whole family.
“My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier,” Sydney wrote. The post included several photos of Jane through the years.
“If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart. She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked,” she added. “She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things.”
Sydney also shared sweet memories from her childhood. She remembered how her grandmother always made the beginning of the school year feel special with a personal “special day” for each grandchild, a full day of banana splits, board games, and visits to places like Silver Dollar City.
“She could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat,” she said. “There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it.” Sydney ended her tribute with the words, “She was love in its purest form.”
Jane Pitt was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and later moved to Springfield, Missouri, where she raised her family with her husband Bill. She worked as an elementary school teacher and had a big passion for art. Her love for painting became something she shared with her grandchildren, creating special moments during craft and painting sessions.
Her obituary described her as a gifted artist and a devoted grandmother. It also mentioned how she made each grandchild feel important through one-on-one time known as “Your Special Day.”
Jane and her husband mostly stayed out of the public eye but occasionally supported Brad at major events, including the Oscars in 2012 and the 2014 premiere of Unbroken.
Jane Pitt’s memory lives on through her family and all those she touched.
