Bradley Cooper is reportedly in talks to join Margot Robbie in a prequel to the hit heist franchise Ocean’s Eleven, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will be produced by Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment and Warner Bros., with Lee Isaac Chung, director of Twisters and Minari, set to direct.

The story is set in Europe during the 1960s and will explore an original tale connected to the world of Ocean’s Eleven, rather than serving as a reboot. Carrie Solomon is writing the script, though details about the plot remain under wraps.

Initially, Ryan Gosling was in talks to co-star alongside Robbie, but reports in October indicate Cooper is now being considered for the male lead role.

The project has gone through several changes since its first announcement in 2022. At that time, Jay Roach was attached to direct, with Robbie producing.

The prequel is designed to tie into the original Ocean’s Eleven continuity, which began with Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 film and continued with sequels Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen. The franchise also expanded with the all-female spin-off Ocean’s 8, released in 2018 and starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and others.

The new film will reportedly explore the backstory of Danny and Debbie Ocean’s parents, the characters originally played by George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. Production had been tentatively scheduled to start in spring 2023, but delays due to the cast’s schedules pushed the timeline back. Lee Isaac Chung is now officially confirmed to direct, and the film will be produced as a joint effort between Warner Bros., LuckyChap Entertainment, and Village Roadshow Pictures.

This prequel has the potential to bring a fresh perspective to a beloved franchise while honoring the legacy of the original films. Fans of the series will likely be eager to see how Cooper and Robbie bring this 1960s European heist story to life.
