‘Breaking Bad’ Creator’s New Series Smashes Ratings, Scores 99% on Rotten Tomatoes
Apple TV’s latest series, Pluribus, is making waves with both critics and audiences. Created by Vince Gilligan, the mind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the show stars Rhea Seehorn, who previously worked with Gilligan on the AMC hit.
Pluribus is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is suddenly absorbed into a collective hive mind.
Seehorn plays Carol Sturka, one of the few immune individuals trying to resist assimilation. The series title comes from the Latin phrase e pluribus unum, meaning “out of many, one,” reflecting the show’s central theme of individuality versus collective control.
Apple has already committed to two seasons of Pluribus, and the first season premiered on November 7, with nine episodes. Critics have been nearly unanimous in their praise. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show holds a 99% approval rating based on 108 reviews, while Metacritic gives it a score of 86 out of 100, signaling “universal acclaim.”
Reviewers have highlighted both Gilligan’s writing and direction and Seehorn’s commanding performance. Nicholas Quah from Vulture called the series “an entrancing piece of television,” noting that Seehorn’s acting draws viewers fully into the story.

He also praised the show’s deliberate pace and its “gorgeous” cinematography. Meanwhile, Kaiya Shunyata of RogerEbert.com described Pluribus as “one of this year’s most complicated and thrilling television series,” blending science fiction with noir and calling the dynamic between Seehorn and co-star Wydra “fascinating to watch.”
Overall, Pluribus is being celebrated for its originality, tone, and stylistic flair, marking another success for Gilligan and Seehorn.
