The upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, promises to bring back what fans loved most about the original show, according to Brendan Wayne, one of the actors who plays Din Djarin.

Since the Star Wars sequel trilogy ended with mixed reactions, The Mandalorian became a huge hit, creating a whole new story within the Star Wars universe.

This new movie will end Star Wars’ seven-year break from theaters and continues right after The Mandalorian season 3. In that season, Din Djarin officially adopts Grogu, and they set up a home on Nevarro, working as bounty hunters for the New Republic.

Season 3, however, received a lot of criticism. Fans were unhappy about Din and Grogu’s reunion happening off-screen, and they felt the show didn’t focus enough on their bond. Some episodes like “The Convert” and “Guns For Hire” felt out of place.

But Brendan Wayne wants to reassure fans that the new movie will focus on the important parts of their story.

In a recent interview with Rebel Force Radio, Wayne said, “I think we go to the storytelling originally that we loved with Mando… We’re with the kid and Mando quite a bit, and their journey is forefront.”

The Mandalorian and Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau and co-written by Favreau and Dave Filoni. It is produced by Lucasfilm and will be released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. This movie continues the story from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, which ran from 2019 to 2023. Pedro Pascal returns as Din Djarin, alongside Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and Jonny Coyne.

Originally, a fourth season of The Mandalorian was planned and even written by February 2023, but production delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes forced Lucasfilm to change their plans.

Instead of the fourth season, they decided to focus on making a movie. The Mandalorian and Grogu was officially announced in January 2024. Filming started in California in August 2024 and finished by December that same year.

Fans can look forward to the movie’s release on May 22, 2026, in the United States.

Besides Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, Grogu—the little green character from the same species as Yoda, is brought to life using puppetry, animatronics, and visual effects. Sigourney Weaver plays Ward, a colonel leading the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers and a veteran Rebel pilot.

Jeremy Allen White joins as Rotta the Hutt, the son of the infamous Jabba the Hutt, while Jonny Coyne plays an Imperial Warlord leading a group of Galactic Empire survivors.

The film will also feature Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios from the animated show Star Wars Rebels, along with members of the Anzellan species.

This fresh chapter in the Star Wars saga hopes to deliver the heart and adventure fans expect, focusing on the close bond between Din and Grogu as they face new challenges together.
