Britney Spears Slams Ex Kevin Federline Over Parenting Claims He Made in a New Memoir
Britney Spears has spoken out after her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, made serious claims about her parenting in his upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew.
The book, set to release on October 21, includes an excerpt published by The New York Times, in which Federline alleges that their children woke up to Spears watching them sleep “with a knife in her hand.”
He also writes, “The clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”
Spears responded on Instagram and X on Wednesday, defending herself and addressing the allegations.
She described Federline’s claims as painful and misleading. “The constant gaslighting from [my] ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting. I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys. Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life,” she wrote.
Spears added that her children have seen “the lack of respect shown by [their] own father for me.” She also noted that one of her sons has only spent 45 minutes with her in the past five years, and the other has had just four visits in that same time frame. “I have pride too. From now on I will let them know when I am available,” she said.

The pop star also directly criticized Federline’s memoir, calling it full of “white lies” that will “go straight to the bank” while she suffers the consequences.
She wrote, “I will always love them and if you really know me, you won’t pay attention to the tabloids of my mental health and drinking. I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past 5 years. I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
Spears and Federline were married in 2004 and divorced two years later, in 2006. They share two sons, who are now 19 and 20 years old.
