Broly vs Beerus: Who Would Win?
Beerus would defeat Broly in a fight. Although Broly might look more imposing, Beerus’ appearance is misleading, as he has shown that he is absolutely one of the most powerful characters in the whole franchise.
Speaking of Broly vs Beerus, there’s still a lot to be said. Throughout the rest of this article, we will look at their powers in more detail and see how the fight between Broly and Beerus would play out.
Broly and his powers
Broly is a non-canon character created by Shigeyasu Yamauchi. He appears in three films dedicated to him: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan (1993), Broly – Second Coming (1994), and Bio-Broly (1994).
A new version of Broly, rewritten by Akira Toriyama with a much different storyline, appears in the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly. In the Dragon Ball universe, he is one of the few Saiyans who survived the destruction of planet Vegeta by Frieza.
Since Dragon Ball Z’s Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan, he has a somewhat different physique than other Super Saiyans. In his normal state, he has black hair like other Saiyans, but already has a very impressive build for his size and his musculature.
At this level, Broly’s power is already very high and he is immune to Vegeta’s attacks. At the Legendary Super Saiyan stage, his musculature increases dramatically, his eyes turn white (without pupils) and his hair is straightened into thin golden strands, but his aura can give them a greenish color.
His clothes and everything he wears with it (boots, bracelets, belt, necklace, and gold hoop earrings) seem stretchy like Frieza’s army outfits as their sizes grow as Broly transforms.
Broly’s gentle and shy character when he has his tiara in his normal state stands in stark contrast to his destructive and cruel demeanor when transformed. It is as if the gigantic power that was in him was dragging him into a rush of destructive madness, against which he cannot fight.
We notice that when he was a child, he could already transform into a Super Saiyan, but not yet at the ultimate stage. He also hurt his father in this state. Just before his father forcibly placed the tiara on him, we noticed, likewise, that although he had just woken up, that he was speaking respectfully to Paragus, before he realizes that his father is up to something.
It became clear that Broly is mentally unstable, and that he suffers from behavior that falls within the scope of a bipolar disorder or something similar. Absence, fury and joy are the main emotions that animate him, but like all Super Saiyans, once transformed, Broly demonstrates relative self-control.
It’s important to note that Broly’s legendary Super Saiyan status from the Dragon Ball Z movies is at odds with the Dragon Ball manga. In the manga, the super Saiyan is admittedly introduced initially as a legendary warrior appearing once every thousand years.
But subsequently, several Super Saiyan appear and it is established that every Super Saiyan is legendary. Therefore, the fact that Broly is presented as the legendary Super Saiyan is therefore a tautology. This is probably why this inconsistent status was dropped for Dragon Ball Super’s Broly.
In the film, he transformed into a giant ape when he was sent to the asteroid Vampa when he was younger. This transformation is not shown in the film, though. On Earth, Broly first transforms into a rabid ape.
He is no longer able to transform into a giant ape because, according to Paragus, Broly no longer has his tail and cannot seem to contain the power of the giant ape within him. In this form, Broly’s hair is spiky and stays black, and his eyes turn slightly golden.
He becomes fierce, his power increases considerably and he shows himself capable of adapting to his opponent regardless of the latter’s power. Over the course of the fight, he manages to transform into a Super Saiyan on his own.
Seeing his father being killed before his eyes, Broly totally loses control of himself and transforms into a maximum power Super Saiyan, where there his hair is green, like the Legendary Saiyan from the Dragon Ball Z movies.
Broly’s power is then limitless and nothing can stop him, such that he manages to easily prevail over two Saiyans transformed into Super Saiyan Blue.
Beerus and his powers
Beerus is the God of Destruction of Universe 7. He first appears as the main antagonist in the film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and then, subsequently, becomes a major character in the Dragon Ball Super series.
He physically resembles a cat that is purple in color and with bunny ears. With a rather childish temperament, he can easily get angry and become very violent if he does not get what he wants.
He is Son Goku’s most powerful opponent, surpassing him on every level and announcing that he was only the second in the universe to stand up to him, another person has already given Beerus a hard time; it is clear that this is his master Whis, the only being in the universe capable of standing up to him.
He tells him, in order to motivate Goku, to train for the tournament pitting him against his twin brother Champa, the God of Destruction of Universe 6. According to his master Whis, he was only using 70% of his power during their fight, and that other people would be even stronger in universes other than this one.
His main technique is called Destruction and gives him the ability to destroy absolutely anything he wants, even a soul. It even destroys a ghost of Dr. Mashirito, a character from the manga Dr. Slump, who makes a cameo appearance in Dragon Ball Super.
He nevertheless believes that Son Goku and Vegeta could become threats in the certain future, without knowing why or against whom.
Not being from planet Earth, he shares, with his master Whis, a fascination with the food that abounds on the planet, especially local desserts such as ice cream, flans, puddings, and strawberries. Despite everything, there is still someone lenient, being ready to pass the sponge for anyone who does something stupid.
Bulma is also the first Earth woman to hit him when the latter calls her a “horrible scoundrel”.
As the God of Destruction, he remains neutral in the conflicts of his universe, as is the case during the clash between Golden Frieza and Son Goku, taking sides neither for one nor the other. When Frieza destroys Earth, Beerus points out to Son Goku that all of this is the result of his excessive mercy and that he should have eliminated Frieza when he was at his mercy.
Beerus, who is quite adamant about time travel, lets Whis go back in time so that Son Goku can undo his mistake and eliminate the tyrant before he destroys Earth. Beerus is somewhat troubled that he is partly responsible for saving Earth, when in theory he is rather supposed to destroy it.
He doesn’t hesitate to investigate Zamasu’s true intentions with Whis, and destroys him after discovering that the latter was planning Gowasu’s murder. Although he is a god, he still shows certain respect towards others, he will even congratulate Ten Shin Han and Master Roshi for their combativeness during the Tournament of Power.
He is very worried that Son Goku will be appreciated by Zeno, who has the power to destroy entire universes, convinced that Universe 7 risks being wiped out if Son Goku makes an irreparable blunder that could upset Zeno.
He seems to have a dispute with Quitela, the God of Destruction of Universe 4. The rivalry between the two characters is palpable during the Tournament of Power, the two gods not hesitating to challenge each other following a disagreement over the use of the mafūba by Master Roshi.
Comparing the powers of Broly and Beerus
Our second section will contain a comparison of the two characters’ powers. This section will be a direct comparison and not as much as a listing of their powers abilities, as we have done before, and is going to serve as a basis for our analysis in section three of our article. Now, let us begin.
There are several points that need comparing when Broly and Beerus are concerned. The first is their basic power. Now, Broly has been shown to be extremely powerful even in his basic form, regardless of which version of the character you consider.
Physically imposing, he was shown to be a great fighter that could hold his own against Son Goku and the other protagonists he faced. Still, his powers aren’t really that high when compared to Beerus.
Beerus is a God of Destruction and as such, he possesses planet-shattering powers. He rarely uses 100% of his powers, as he doesn’t need to do it because the majority of his opponents are obviously weaker than him.
In terms of power, Beerus certainly takes the points.
As for their abilities, Broly has demonstrated a wide array of different abilities, some of which are canon, while others are not. But, being a Super Saiyan, his powers are limited to those of Super Saiyans in general and Broly, although he is powerful, never passes those limitations.
Beerus, on the other hand, is capable of destroying everything. His ultimate technique allows for the destruction of everything, even souls, which is a consequence of his divine character. The thing with Beerus is that he rarely has to use his full potential, so we never actually see his shattering powers.
What we know of his abilities is mostly from stories, simply because Beerus unleashing his full potential would be too dangerous. As a deity, he can also manipulate space and time, something that Broly cannot even dream of doing.
This is why the winner here is also clear – Beerus takes these points as well.
As for their personalities, this is quite difficult to compare, as one (Broly) is a Super Saiyan, while the other (Beerus) is a deity. Now, from what we know of Broly, he is a rather unstable character with two completely opposite sides – one gentle (with the tiara), the other destructive.
He has difficulties controlling his emotions and his behavior, which often causes him to become like a rampaging beast and a threat to everything around him. It has to be noted that he seems to be mentally ill, although it is debatable how human notions of mental illness can apply to his character.
All in all, if you find him with his tiara, he can be quite pleasant. Without it – you should just run.
Beerus, on the other hand, is consistently cat-like in his behavior. He isn’t evil – in fact, he tends to be completely neutral – but he might come out as menacing from time to time. He is dangerous and rather childish, meaning that you have to be careful how you deal with him, as his mood tends to change quite often, but never like Broly’s.
Beerus is quite egoistic but he does seem to care about others, as he even allowed Goku to go back in time to save Earth, despite him being the one who should destroy it. All in all, Beerus is quite complex as a character but he is consistent in his behavior.
This is why we think that Beerus takes this one as well. Sure, Broly is unpredictable and that can be an advantage but not against Beerus, who is extremely intelligent and composed, which – of course – gives him the upper hand against a rampaging maniac like Broly.
And this concludes our comparison. Now, we can continue with our final section as we plan on declaring the winner of this duel.
Broly vs Beerus: Who would win?
And now for the most important and interesting section of our article – the analysis. Here, we are going to use what we have found out about these two characters and analyze how all these facts would (or would not) help them in a fight against each other. Let us continue.
Now, it’s quite interesting to observe this clash. Broly, in his ultimate form, definitely seems imposing, formidable even. He is large, he is strong and he is powerful. You’d think that he’s almost invincible if you just look at him. But he has proven himself in the stories, he doesn’t just look the part – he also plays it quite well.
On the other hand, Beerus is an anthropomorphic, skinny cat. In comparison, even his brother Champa looks more menacing. Yet, Beerus is undoubtedly one of the most powerful characters in the whole franchise. He was able to defeat Super Saiyan God Goku without even trying.
Now, we’ve compared their powers and we’ve seen that both Beerus and Broly have enormous, planet-shattering powers. They are quick, have amazing reflexes, and are great fighters. So, who would win?
In our opinion, Beerus would take this fight. The guy may look like a total wimp, but his appearance is deceiving. He is enormously powerful and while Broly might be a Legendary Super Saiyan, Beerus is an actual god and his power levels are above Broly’s in every aspect.
Still, Beerus would have to give his best, as Broly wouldn’t really fall down that easily.
